What are age spots?

I got a few spots on my arms and they look like bruises or cuts-but not cuts. Someone told me those are age spots. Do you have to be concerned about them? Can they get to be worse?

age spots.

I don't have any thank goodness, but I imagine because I'm so fair skinned that my freckles might turn into age spots as I age..

I don't think they are anything really to worry about. Just come with age. They are more of a freckle/mole looking annoyance thing.

Being someone who has had Cancer two times though I am very careful with anything and even age spots you have to look for certain signs of changing. If the become black or change in appearance in any way then you should get them checked out.

I went to a dermatologist, as I'm in the sun a lot, she said the age spots were nothing to worry about. However, she did freeze off a few other spots that were precancerous, that I had not even noticed. Yikes 😲

The skin on my hands and arms is very thin, and I often get dark marks....usually after bumping into something. I found a formula consisting of 1/3rd apple cider, 1/3rd olive oil, and 1/3rd water that seems to help. I keep a couple of small plastic jars of this mix, and some Q-tips in the bathroom, and workshop. When I spot a mark, I shake up the bottle to mix the ingredients, then smear the spot with a Q-tip, and within a day or two, the mark or bruise is gone. Awhile back, I even had a dark smudge on the side of my cheek....about the size of a quarter....and I had some concern about skin cancer. While deciding whether to go to the doctor, I smeared some of this stuff on my face, 2 or 3 times a day, and after about a week, it went away.

Age spots are caused by overactive pigment cells. Ultraviolet (UV) light speeds up the production of melanin, and on skin that's had years of sun exposure, your melanin becomes clumped or is produced in higher concentrations.
Hey….you spoiled my theory…..I always thought they were freckles getting older.
I have lots of freckles, but as I can tell, they’re not aging…..lucky me.😏😉😀

Do you have to do that several times a day?

I don't have age spots, but when I scrape my skin on anything I get purple bruises that are embarrassing. I usually wear Band Aids on them. It is the skin getting thinner. Arnica is good remedy for bruising.

Well I do have age spots.....lots of them.
Should have worn gloves all those years working outside, but I didn't listen to my mother, thought I'd be young and cute forever.

Yes....about 3 times/day....morning, noon and night. It seems to work good for me, and only costs a few pennies.
Thanks. I’ll definitely give it a try. Every time I scrape or bump myself I end up with a mark that lasts.
