A former Georgia official faked being pregnant so she could take paid maternity leave — but her scheme came apart when a co-worker noticed her baby bump was bogus, officials said.
Robin Folsom, 43, also allegedly made up a fake baby daddy to send an email to her bosses that said she was under doctor’s orders for several weeks of bed rest after giving birth in May 2021, the Georgia Office of the Inspector General announced this week.

The birth-that-wasn’t came two months after a co-worker at the state’s Vocational Rehabilitation Agency allegedly saw part of Folsom’s fake pregnancy stomach “come away” from her body, according to a news release from the IG’s office.

Folsom, director of external affairs for the agency, sent her co-workers photos of her supposed newborn, but they “depicted children with varying skin tones,” the release stated.

What is wrong with people?

Nah. What is wrong with her?
I think wrong is wrong but more and more i see stories where people have good jobs ( this was a six-figure job) and reputations
they are so willing to throw down the toilet for petty things .... this never made sense to me.

Even if she gets minor jail time she will not be welcomed back into a professional career i am sure she built over time to reach a directors level.
Seems like a fairly petty payoff for throwing her life down the tubes.

Not all people do this kind of thing, and I rather think it's unfair to imply it, even though you may not mean to do so.

Some does not mean all.
i agree it is SOME people....i did not imply All but understand the need fro distinction.

I truly do not see how it seems like more then i would have never imagined doing odd things without ever considering the consequences.
Maybe that is not important to some people .... belief they are smarter then others and will NOT get caught.
People who either simply do not think they will be caught or exposed ....
because i would think if they did put some thought into items they would not even try stunts like this.

I knew a married guy with 3 kids. He had a good job, nice house & new cars. He shoplifted & was banned from 3 stores.
When I worked as a process server, one attorney I worked for robbed a gas station & went to prison for 5 years. Amazing!

a good example of what i am talking about ...
an attorney all the school now wasted because they won't be practicing law again ..... i think some people are living far above their means but i would think it would be less life changing to scale down instead of being arrested for a crime and losing much more.

"Some does not mean all". That's very true Devi and I didn't see anything in this thread that implied it does. But I read so many stories about people doing crazy, stupid things literally every single day. So it may be some, but it seems like an awful lot of some! I have an app called Smart News. I had to stop reading it because of the multitude of disturbing things I read on there. Smart News carries news stories from several different news venues. I've also read several things in our north Jersey news paper.

same here, often we read about people who can well afford not to shoplift and they do... There's been several well known cases here of people in the public eye, found shoplifting minor things.. A Top TV presenter.. a well known Aristocrat..etc..

What a messed up, poorly planned con-woman she is, too! Apparently she didn't wear her fake baby bump very well, she made up a baby daddy with a hard to spell name and then used pictures of several different babies to show her newborn to people. How long did she plan to keep this up? Was she going to hire a four year old to go to the company picnics with her? Talk about your tangled webs!

It makes no sense to risk your job and reputation for what sounds like little gain so I wonder if it is a mental health issue? Of course there are some people who are simply dishonest and she may be one of them but, it sounds bizarre and difficult to see how she planned to continue with the lie going forward.

It is in some cases.
Kleptomania:
"An impulse control disorder that results in an irresistible urge to steal.
The cause of kleptomania remains unknown but risk factors include a family history of kleptomania or other impulse control disorders. It occurs more often in women.
Kleptomania is a serious disorder that causes an irresistible urge to steal items that aren't needed and are usually of little value. Consequences can include job loss, financial penalties, and trouble with the law.
No cure exists. But treatment with talk therapy and medication, such as antidepressants, may help end the cycle of compulsive stealing."
