I think that there are way too many people who take sporting events far too seriously. Incidents like this tend to lend credence to the sociological belief that sports are a preparation for and a substitute for war. While sports violence of this scope is uncommon in the U.S., there are still fights, and overly-ego involved parents may readily be seen at youth sporting events, teaching the young by example that it isn’t just a game, and that winning is everything…. 😩

Amen to that.

A beer filled sports fan getting out of control- who would have ever thought that could happen. Along with the 'fans', I blame the venue for the violence at games. Let's face it, the stadium owners aren't selling alcohol as a public service- it's profits. In keeping the seats full, owners do not aggressively police the stands. Fights, and other violence becomes common. In the old Philly stadium, fans in the 700 section came there to beat up people. 3 or 4 thugs would gang up on some guy. You could see the fights in the stands, as you watched the game on TV It got so bad, they had to have a judge conduct on the spot trails for the roaming thugs. They were immediately tossed into a jail, especially built in the arena. Guess what- no more large brawls. Drunken jack asses are going to act up till someone stops them, and if nobody does........... Time and time again, when there's violence in a stadium, there's a long history of violence there. Fans are conditioned to expect a level of violence.
