The Kennedy Center

From the Eiffel Tower to San Francisco City Hall, sites around the world have been illuminated in the colors of the Ukrainian flag. The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., joined the worldwide displays of solidarity this week, lighting its white marble façade in sky blue and golden yellow.

In a statement to NPR, Kennedy Center president Deborah Rutter says the Center is using it's platform "to demonstrate our solidarity with the people of Ukraine." Physical symbols of support as well as the art on stage will, "remind people of the vital role the culture of all nations play in creating our global artistic fabric," she says. This weekend at The Kennedy Center, The National Symphony Orchestra will perform the Ukrainian national anthem at its concerts and the Washington National Opera will play and sing the anthem at the premiere of Written In Stone.

Creating these immense light installations isn't a matter of changing some lightbulbs. The Kennedy Center Production Department used 48 sheets of lighting gels and a 67-foot lift to place the gels over 144 lights.

From Niagara Falls

The needs of Ukraine are immense right now. Lighting up world landmarks won't improve the country's plight but, as images flood social media, it has been something of a morale booster. "Niagara Falls lit up in blue and yellow our people are everywhere! Thank you!" says a post on the Facebook page of the Ukrainian American Cultural Center of New Jersey.

One of Lincoln Center's resident organizations, The Met Opera, is dedicating the rest of its season the people of Ukraine. "We shed tears for them," says General Manager Peter Gelb in a statement, "including their brothers and sisters in Russia, who are also victims of the lies and propaganda of Putin, who seems intent on the destruction of Ukraine, its people, and all personal freedom in Ukraine and in Russia."

It is good to see that people around the World are behind Ukraine,
in their struggles.

Here where I live, the Home Office, (Government), has the Ukrainian
flag flying on the roof, I suggested that a flag is OK, but, they need
ammunition.

They are getting Drones from an unknown source, anti-tank/aircraft
rockets from all around Europe, but I suspect that they are running
short of men to use these, now they need help.

Mike.

I agree they need help but 2 factors are being considered. One has to do with Ukraine having never joined the NATO Alliance. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) said it condemned “in the strongest possible terms” Russia’s attack on Ukraine, but it has not sent any troops to Ukraine because Ukraine is not a member of the Nato alliance, meaning it is not obligated to launch an armed attack against Russia to protect Ukraine.

Nato is a military alliance made up of 30 countries including the UK and the US. Allies have increased the number of troops in NATO countries surrounding Ukraine in recent weeks.

The other reason is that sending troops and ammunition could escalate the war far and wide. But with that said, the news says it's in consideration.

I understand that Lara, ammunition is allowed by NATO,
to be sent and weapons.

There are thousands of volunteers travelling to Ukraine to
fight, several thousands from the USA alone, lots from here
too, plus many more from all around Europe, all civilians not
NATO.

The reports here whether true or not are staggering, about
5 Million refugees have crossed several borders, the Russians
are announcing safe corridors for people who want to leave
any city, then they go ahead and kill them as they flee, the
latest scam is corridors only to the East, Russia, or to the North,
Belarus, not a lot of choice really.

If the Russians are getting beat, as reports suggest, then I think
we need to look out, he will escalate, to Nukes.

Mike.

I am still hopeful for President Zelensky and the Ukrainians, here's an article with some information for anyone interested.

Since Russia's invasion began, 14 countries have sent security assistance to Ukraine, the official said, some of whom had rarely sent such substantial equipment before.

The "vast majority" of a $350 million US security assistance package has already been delivered to Ukraine, according to the official, only one week after it was officially approved by the White House.

Approximately $240 million of the package has reached Ukraine, and the rest should arrive within days and maybe weeks, "but not longer," the official said Friday.

The components that have already been delivered include "the most needed capabilities, like anti-armor capabilities."
Once in possession of the weapons, the Ukrainians have used them to slow and stall Russian assaults in different parts of Ukraine.

"I think all of us have been tremendously impressed by how effectively the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been using the equipment that we've provided them," the official said.

Perhaps most notably, a massive Russian convoy spanning 40 miles of road north of Kyiv, Ukraine's capital, has barely moved in days.

I guess all the support is nice but it's about as useful as this truckload of " thoughts and prayers" that is ready to be unloaded in the Ukraine

I'm far from an expert on these matters, just sharing what I'm thinking about the murderous dictator Putin. How many years now has the world given him power by fearing his empty threats of nuclear war, if I'm not mistaken, it's been many.

If everyone bows down to him, lets him win, and gives him all the power that he longs for, it doesn't make anyone more secure. If he kills and overtakes today, in short time he will plan to do it again somewhere else, and make the same threats of killing and nuclear attacks. It's never ending.

This is 2022, almost all of the entire free world is against him right now, if something doesn't happen to break his strength and power, we are all his victims. I'm hoping for a miracle, for something to happen to save Ukraine and make Putin and his loyalists pay the ultimate price, can't even describe what that would be, but I remain hopeful.

I think Putin is unsure and frightened right now, and that is dangerous.....but when he invades and conquers, that is also deadly and dangerous. :(

Support means everything, whether it's thoughts and prayers, military weapons, financial aid, or additional voluntary manpower. The world is supporting Ukraine in one way or another, there is strength in unity and fighting for freedom and democracy. 🇺🇦

Thank you Mike and SeaBreeze. I didn't know of the scope of the heroes volunteering....all civilians from all over the planet.
My eyes are filled with tears of gratitude to hear this. I have hope 🙏

Highly unlikely. Using nukes in Ukraine would make the land uninhabitable for 100 years. He actually wants the territory

I'm simply talking about the "support" of lighting buildings, etc. Of course they need the support of food, weapons, and financial aid, which is my point they need real support not "thoughts and prayers"

All support is valuable, some of them are made aware of the lighting of the buildings in the United States and across the world. It is good for their morale to know they are being thougt of and supported. Don't care if you admit that or not.
