The Trucker Convoy

I'm sure this topic has been discussed in previous posts, but I can't find them. At any rate, the infamous trucker convoy has finally arrived in the Washington D.C. area and has been wandering aimlessly around the Capital Beltway for a few days. "Arrive" as in several weeks late and in numbers way below what was originally advertised. Other than annoying some rush hour motorists, not much of an effect. Most of the truckers are not quite sure why they are here, as they fill up their gas tanks to the tune of $1200 (and rising) or so. However, apparently no one has told them that the Mask Mandate NO LONGER EXISTS! So, if it is a protest or what is being protested, well I don't think anyone understands.

I think the truckers' protest wasn't just about masks — it was about vaccine mandates.
Yes but those are pretty much gone too. The country has moved on and more or less accepted (for good or bad) Covid-19 as an unfortunate aspect of life. The point is, these guys and girls need to go home and stop wasting all of that gasoline!

They seem to be copying what happened here in Canada. The protest here was really put down by the media. I thought that the truckers did have some valid reasons to protest. However, in addition to the truckers, a lot of really dumb people got into the act. By dumb I mean those that didn't understand the issues but just liked to protest, scream, yell, carry Confederate flags and maybe painted Nazis signs.

As for that Washington protest, I agree with those that say it's a little too late. The mandates are gone or will soon be gone. I reckon those folks really need to go home and figure out what to do next. I believe in liberty and I believe you need to protest big issue wrongs but them folks are protesting wrongs when there aren't any. Sounds confusing? Sure it's confusing and it seems some folks just get awful confused by looking too long at their social media posts.

We had some guys around here driving around in pick-up trucks, waving flags and shouting things. It was unhinged, wild and disturbing.

It was kind of like some guys from a bar at 2AM on a Saturday, got into their cars and started going nuts.

Felt more like a drunken tailgate party than a political protest.

And, you know, with just as much potential for some serious bar fighting. It had that tone...drunk guys looking for a fight.

I have had friends from both sides of the political aisle, that I have respected.

These guys were not like them at all.

Someone forgot to tell them there's a war going on.

Truckers' convoy is yesterday's news!

It was and the American truckers were so late to join the worldwide truckers' protests they made their mission irrelevant. Their goal now is to get the "state of emergency" to end through legislation while driving around the beltway in larger and larger numbers until their demands are met.

Canada won their point best as most of the truckers on the planet organized similar convoys in their own countries and the mandates began to drop in many locations as a result, I think, of their efforts.

The U.S. truckers were dead last in this protest. I don't think they will be successful in getting rid of the state of emergency regarding covid.

A trucker convoy to protest things? Have you been on an Interstate, it's one long trucker convoy. And since cell phones, nobody is big on CB radios , like in the 1970s. Their protest was just to protest. "Breaker. Breaker, Good buddy, the nation moved on."
Has the issue they were protesting about been resolved? If so, link, please.

I'm the last guy around here to claim to be "trendy." You know, keeping up with the Jones, the latest fashions, the latest music or the latest movies. I'm sort of back in the 50s or 60s sort of guy. However, I think getting excited with the latest Covid news is rather outdated. Now we have Comrade Putin on the rampage. He is the type of guy that just might start WWIII. To me, that is a greater worry or concern than worrying about Covid numbers which are going down everyday. To my way of thinking, it's Covid out, Comrade Putin in! The "merry-go-round" just doesn't seem to ever stop.

Canada won their point
I disagree. They didn’t win, they were just the loudest and most vocal. They cost many ordinary citizens on both sides of the border lots of money. Goods couldn’t be delivered either directions. It cost working truckers who had to sit and wait for days before they could deliver. Large and small merchants couldn’t get their goods.

Sadly, that's the result of misguided domestic terrorists financially supported by fringe people south of the Canadian border.

No, that's just another "crisis" dumped in our laps by our governments who want to keep us in a permanent state of anxiety about something. And, it took many people's attention off truckers and mandates, a movement which was growing dangerously while garnering results.
