Finally, after waiting for a year I get to get my partial knee implant replaced with a full compartment unit. Been getting all my bloodwork, X-rays & other stuff needed for the surgery.

I was 3rd in line a year ago when they stopped elective surgery because Coav-19 needed all the beds in the hospital.

Got a call a while ago from a nurse at the hospital today asking me if I cared if they gave me a blood transfusion before & during the surgery Since my blood test came back my red blood cell count was a little low. I told her no I have no objections to it.

She said she had to ask, as some people have religious reasons not to get blood & that would have stopped the operation till I get my red cells up where they should be.
 

Best of luck to you. Several people in my diabetes support group have had knee replacements. They said the most important issue for good results is your therapy.
 
Best of luck. Interesting about the blood. When I had my first knee replacement in 2009 they had me donate a pint of my own blood ahead of time in case it would be needed during surgery.
it wasn’t, and I understand it was just discarded.
Ive heard they don’t do this any more.
 
I'll disappear for about a week or so after Sunday. Most of my clocks update automatically. just the stove & microwave. So I won't be later for my surgery.
I'm definitely going to work hard with my therapy. I've talked to several people in my church that said the recovery is faster & better if you work hard on the therapy.

One woman 88 had "both" knees replaced the same day. She said it was a little harder but she is now walking & dancing with no help.

Best of luck with your knee surgery Tom, I hope the operation goes smooth and you have a completely recover with little discomfort.
 
My husband had a total knee replacement in August. He's 81 and he's doing great. No more pain and that's a blessing. Be sure to go to PT. It's so worth it to get professional guidance. Don't try to do PT at home. Good luck.

Thank you so much for pointing out my error Kaila❣️ I don't know why I typed Mitch! Chalk it up to a senior moment. :rolleyes: Well, I pray for everyone I know who's body parts are forsaking them. :D I don't have chronic pain but people in my family have suffered with it and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I apologize for the error @Tom 86 I will be praying for you. :D

Hubby just had his right knee replaced two weeks ago. Had his left done almost three years ago and was scheduled for his right in March 2020,but Covid took care of that. What a difference a few short years makes though! This one was done robotically.He walked(WALKED!) out of the hospital 4 hours after surgery. Last time he stayed overnight and was wheeled out. No pain whatsoever for the first 4 days or so,due to a block they put in. But when that wore off,he did have significant pain-mybe more than he had with the last knee,but then the changes that have taken place in the past few years with how much opioids docs can prescribe. His scrips were for half the dosages he was given last time. But yesterday was the turning point for him-very,very little pain now.
