Now I Know Why People Hoard Stuff

It's because they figure they just might need it one day.....might come in handy.

Yesterday the cord connecting the tv to the box kept falling out. Annoying, and more annoying was the fact that I went first to the Bell store, then to Walmart, then to Staples without success to buy a replacement. Out of stock everywhere.

Finally the last stop was Staples and he said while they do not sell that cord, he told me to hang on and I watched while he rifled through a box of miscellaneous used stuff and found what I needed. No charge.

What gets my goat is the fact that a couple of weeks ago during a purge I had donated a huge box of electronics to Habitat, a lot of it new or barely used. I know now why I should have kept that in a box under the bed.

Anyone else got rid of something only to find they needed it.

Yeah, I needed a piece of trim that matched some trim I discarded about 15 years ago as my trim was 3/16" short after doing some drywall work! Could not get a replacement among the many trims available at the home store so I used wood putty to extend my trim out. Sanded, primed, and painted nearly as good as new. So it all ended well.

I like to keep "hardware" items that I foresee as being usable, and lo and behold they are used. From time to time, however, I get rid of things, usually if I have not touched them in 5 or 10 years. Some things ALWAYS get used, like plywood or 2x4's - give me a truck load of them and they will be gone in 5 years. And yes, I keep electrical cords and chargers - I think I could start an online store! Need to go through these and get rid of duplicates.

For awhile when the kids were young I was making wedding cakes to supplement out income. A few years back I decided to give away or sell all my baking pans. They were to large for home use so I figured I'd never use them.

A few months ago I decided to make some baked custard. I noticed I had written on the recipe to stand the cups in my large baking pan for the water bath. I ended up using a cookie sheet but it was very wobbly.

I also got rid of a pot with an insert I bought to boil pasta. I never did like how it worked. We hadn't had asparagus for awhile and finally realized I used that pot because it steamed the tips perfectly as the bottom part cooked in the insert.

I do miss those two items but there was so much more I got rid of that I never used anymore it was well worth giving them up.

I feel you.. but I find myself saying many times... ''We just can't keep everything ''... for example if I'd known some stuff from the 70's was going to be sought after I'd have become a hoarder, and made myself rich now.. :ROFLMAO:

I have saved stuff for years because I knew I'd be able to use them one day....and sure enough I was able to use the item(s). This is with clothes, gadgets and even little what nots. And yes, I've got lots of cables and connectors stored here. While purging is a good thing, sometimes it's hard to know what to keep and what to get rid of. How nice that you got what you needed free of charge!
