Ex US women's soccer team goalie Hope Solo found passed out in running car with children in it. Charged with dui, child abuse and resisting an officer. Estimated she was out for an hour. Also refused a field sobriety test so blood was drawn.

At this point if she's an active alcoholic she's not a good parent. Things can change but there certain 'mistakes' one cannot make as a parent or as a driver and she did.

Alcoholism ain't pretty. It runs through my family. I have 5 aunts, and all married alcoholics. And my aunt's brother, my uncle, died of sclerosis. My grandfather was. My brother is. As a nursing student, I had to attend an AA meeting. I sat next to a guy, who described running over and killing a kid, He was imprisoned. for a long time

Until the alcoholic actually wants to stop for themselves and not to appease someone they won't. Since she has prior incidents her family apparently isn't enough motivation to stop. So for her to act like everything is ok is bs.

She must miss the spotlight.

OK, again, don't know this woman or anything about her but possible personality disorder here.

Not an actual expert, just raised by a personality disorder which makes me my own kind of expert on the subject.

sorry to hear about your experience.

I was raised by wolves. Completely understand.

And yes, there definitely is something off about her. I remember hearing all this about 10 years ago or something. You know, this is the first time I thought...I bet she was abused as a child. Or something similar...

Don't know about personality disorders but having known drunks including in family short temper and impatience is definitely a sign. Also when the behavior gets repetitive and consequences are ignored that's a sign as well.

Know someone who had dui's going back 30 years and a more recent dui/offender program said he needed rehab or counseling. He jumped through hoops to get out of both including bragging how he spoke to the supervisor to out of it-with a beer in hand. A decade later still drinks like a fish and the health consequences are piling up. Point is until the alkie wants to sober up all the programs in the world they are sent to/mandated will not work. There is denial and/or image centered people. Solo is high profile and is probably worried about current press and legacy including she doesn't want to be known or portrayed as a drunk but she is now anyway.

@WhatInThe Add alcohol to any issue and it really amplifies the problem. Substance abuse is one thing that isn't in my family. Gratefully. Alcohol and mental illness is a real bad combo.
