I put wooden posts for free on Marketplace and NextDoor

The choice between doing the work to dig up two posts, back filling the holes with top soil, then digging holes to reset those 4x4 posts.

Buying & cutting one 8ft. long pole in half to put 1 ft. underground & 3 ft. above ground like those are . I'd rather buy unused new poles for $4.58.

Landscape Timber Cherrytone (Common: 8 ft.; Actual: 96 in.)

For free in this instance means a lot of work & not knowing if below ground the posts are rotted. That and bringing top soil to backfill the holes.

Deb,
Reality check. You are trying to give away 4X4 posts that have been stuck in the ground for heavens knows how long. The below ground portions are probably rotted,
You are basically asking someone to take away your posts for free by digging them and the concrete they are imbedded in up and putting topsoil in the holes. Then you wonder why people are laughing.

"The line of least resistance"...see if a neighbor has a chain-saw, cut bottom close to ground..would take him "2 seconds"..his neighborly deed.
give him a six pack-a-beer.

Or check to see if an Eagle scout in the area...needs another badge..for helping elderly.

Nail some chicken wire between the posts and plant morning glories or a cardinal vine there. Maybe while you're hammering they'll fall over. Problem solved.
Good idea! Or just wrap each post with chicken wire rather than stringing between. Morning Glories would look great.
Attach a bird feeder to a post.
Put a decorative solar lantern/ light on one.
