I hate to have to be suspicious of delivery drivers but sometimes it's merited

..generally speaking , when I get a delivery ( and I get quite a lot rarely a week goes past without at least something) ..it's usually a smooth delivery with no problems, but occasionally something goes missing and it's often fairly obvious it went missing between the delivery depot and my house.

Today was a classic example of that. The driver whom I'd not seen before.. brought my Very large box to the door ( he walked across my lawn ..I hate that anyway).. but I saw him approach and knowing how awkward the box was for him opened the door before he had to knock.

He probably wasn't expecting me to open the door, because more often than not they leave the parcel on the doorstep , knock and run, so by the time we take the parcel in and open it they're long gone ..... but I'd opened the door, and the box was already open... it had clearly been opened with a box cutter to view the contents.

He went to leave and I said that this wasn't the only item I was expecting.. and this box had been opened. He flustered and said that ''the vibration of the van had shaken it open''..and that my other items would probably be in the box... I insisted on showing him what was in the box.. ( a sack barrow)... and saying there was another 5 items still to come... then he suddenly 'remembered' that he had another parcel in his van for me .. and went and fetched it.. and then very politely but forcefully I made him stand there while I checked the other items were in this box... which they were.. and he stuttered apologies.. and all sorts of excuses..

Hmmmmm... good thing I was home..I would have had an item left on the doorstep already opened, ready for the doorstep thieves... and 5 items that he would probably have insisted he delivered

did you report anything?
although it may seem harmless if they know it is NOT the first time boxes opened etc they can expose the person faster.

i once had a meal delivery thing and on occasion the box disappeared ... i Knew it was a third party delivery that Fed Ex used cause on week there was no need for overflow delivery the box was there first thing .....told main company they talked with FED EX.
 
Good job confronting him and keeping him there. “Suddenly remembering” screams guilty. If he had said he’d go back and check and then found the other package, he‘d have had a better chance at feigning innocence.

Will you report your suspicions?
 
No I won't report him, I can't prove anything. It was clear he thought I might by the way he was stuttering apologies and making excuses.. but I can't prove he opened the box.. nor can I prove he hadn't just made an error by 'forgetting' my other package.

.. but I'll continue to be Hyper Vigilant...
