How do you escape from everyday life?

I've found since I've retired that I'm much more attuned to what is happening in the world. That's not such a good thing since the news is usually so depressing. I am empathetic to what is happening in places like Ukraine and have donated to World Central Kitchen, but I can't take a steady diet of negative news. I listen to enough news so I know what may affect my life in the future.

How do you escape from everyday life?

I fast forward through the news. There is nothing I can do about all the recent shootings so I skip through them. No one does anything and there are always "thoughts and prayers". I could care less about Elon Musk's recent bid for Twitter so that one goes on fast forward as well.

I do watch some of the late-night talk shows because they present the news in a comedic manner. I always need one good drama (we are watching The Flight Attendant) to totally take me away from my everyday existence. Even crime dramas on ID and Oxygen, as heinous as they are, take me away from the everyday world.

The last would be visits to the gym almost every day. I find that exercise and music improves my mental health.

What do you all do to escape from your everyday lives?

I read a great deal. I go to charity shops and buy several books at once, and devour them in just a few days. I don't watch much tv. There are many interesting documentaries but I prefer the written word.
I also find that getting out into the countryside is very therapeutic. I'm lucky enough to live on the edge of town so I can soon escape into greenery. The birds are busy building nests. I have sat quietly beside a hedge and watched a pair of blue tits building their nest. That sort of thing empties your mind and helps you get any problems into perspective.

Good, good question, @dseag2

I've found a mixed bag works for me

Live each day/week

......like it was your last and one of many

Plan long
Live short

I made a poster from a pic I took of a sunrise out at the cabin

Oh My God, what a beautiful sight for negative city junk to escape would be great if there was a cabin available wishful dreaming.
Gary, you do wonderful work.

I read often enough spring cleaning just to take up time. Should do more.
As in workouts. Greatly needed.
I was 138 lbs once and brought myself down to my normal size weight of 105 lbs. In 2 months.
I worked out meaning excerized starting with 5 situps, could only do a half of one goal to move up every week. That I was doing 25 of each different body part workout all at home. There was one gym back then my sister later in the future joined I was already obsessed going through my husband being husbandnapped by a greedy selfish who had everything but a faithful husband....naturally she napped him still married to her 39 years ago. He's on Facebook with his 🌭 pet a real one.

I do not watch the news at all. I see bits of it online on social media and that is enough for me. One of my friends is a reporter and always right in the hot spots for his job so his posts on fb is enough for what I need to know. I am too busy with living and working on my goals. I am doing my best to cut out worrying and stress and that is part of it.

We just made a "sea change" in our lives. We were living in a +55 mobile home park, and we saw a new apartment development down by the ocean. We fell in love with it and are living there now.
Yesterday we went back to our old place to download some data from our computer. Upon driving out, the place looked like a ghost town, with nobody out and about. In our new home, we can look out and see all manner of people, especially down by the ocean. The view of the Channel Islands is also changing daily.
We feel renewed, at peace, and @Kayelle's depression over the pandemic has lifted. She sis waving from over my shoulder.

Well I could say my Garden but that IS my everyday life. I could say reading, or walking in the woods, or the fields or parks, and lake near the house, but again..everyday life...

..to really escape from my everyday life, I fly to somewhere where the sun shines and the Water is blue.. usually Spain or Cyprus, or Greece...but if I'm only escaping from my everyday life..for one day, then I go to a tourist site I've never visited, or go to another village/town or city in a different part of the country and take photos galore... or go to the coast... any one of the hundreds of different beaches that we have in this country..nearest beach for me is 40 mins away

That's a good question;

How do you escape from everyday life? I haven't figured that one out yet. How can you possibly escape from everyday life? You can't escape from yourself and last time I was aware life accompanies us as long as we are a part of life. Perhaps if we could take death vacation for a while we would temporary escape from everyday life. Wouldn't it be cool to die for a while?
