Do You Have Any "What Ifs"?

For years I've tried to make sure to prepare for "what if this happened, what if that happened (or didn't happen). Here are mine: What if...
~I had to move from this apartment (rents or taking on another mortgage would be way more expensive than what I'm paying now). Having to move would be because something catastrophic happens in our building or complex. I thought of this for years because of so many reports of buildings partially collapsing (before the incident in Florida) or catching fire, even exploding (we had a gas leak in mine and the adjoining building a couple of years ago).

~I got a serious illness and had to depend on my son or other relatives to handle my business (I relish my independence) or

~I had to go into a nursing home (can't get LTC, so would I be able to pay the cost?)

~What if my pension gets cut in half or discontinued. This is because when I retired 24 years ago, the state was billions short of what should have been in our fund. Now it's even worse and I've read about other pensions going broke.

What are your What Ifs?

Great topic!

My What If's are...

  • What if I outlive my savings?
  • What if I become infirm and have to enter an assisted living facility or nursing home?
  • What if I develop a terminal illness?
  • What if my partner passes away before I do?
  • What if Texas rescinds gay marriage?

I also have lots of "what if's" concerning whether I had done things differently in the past, but that is water under the bridge and we must make the best of the decisions we've made.

Tons of "what ifs" from my past, but it's too late. My current concern is "What if my mind goes before my body?" Call me a control-freak, but this is my most serious concern.

I try to not let too many 'what ifs' creep into my life. They tend to turn into fear and a very negative outlook, but there is no avoiding when making some of life's decisions.

Example.....I just got a notice that my house insurance is going up $600 per year ! Do I cut back some of the coverage? What if......what if....

@Jackie23 .. That's a huge jump! Time to start phoning around.

Not many here, the only one I can think of is what if I end up an invalid and have no means of voluntary escape.

Been saving painkillers for that, but who knows if I will be able to administer them when the time comes. Not that I expect it anytime soon, I am happy and my health is pretty good.
This is what living wills and DNRs are for. Plus talk honestly with loved ones about what constitutes an unacceptable 'quality of life' for you.

ahhh...you see this is where when answering a question or statement from a previous poster, requires you to quote... because like me many people will just read the OP.. and then scroll down to see replies... and not realise you were replying to the previous poster..
And @ohioboy
Or at least open your response with "@Whomever" (using the screen name you're replying to).

I pretty much have done all that.

What worries me is that I will want to leave before anyone else can legally help me, so long as euthanasia is illegal.
