I "Killed" Netflix (Just Kidding)

So Netflix has been in the news a lot lately, I guess due to cancelling a lot of Russia accounts, they've been losing money (probably also because of getting competition from the ever-growing other streaming services), their stock dropped horribly, they've been laying people off right and left, etc. And isn't this just always the way: just a few weeks ago, I was thinking how much I enjoyed Netflix in spite of them raising the price and now I hear that they'll probably be cancelling a bunch of their shows and the remaining ones'll have ads. Every darn time I praise something, something bad happens to it, sigh. (I think I'm also the kiss of death to a lot of characters on shows: every time I decide I really like a character, they get killed off in the next episode.)

Anyway, I hear that since some Netflix shows are likely to be cancelled, we better get to binge watching the ones we still haven't watched. They say that Stranger Things probably won't be cancelled; I hope Sweet Tooth isn't either.
 

I don't like Netflix and so I don't watch it; so I guess it doesn't matter for me. However, I will the last one left standing to cry because some big corporation is losing a few dollars where they have been making billions in the past. I have a lot more sympathy for the homeless in our large cities than Netflix losing money.

I'm for the underdog! Big Money can take care of itself without any tears from me. I think it has something to do with their CEOs making tons of money while laying off the staff at the bottom by the hundreds.

Netflix, I can take or leave it. I am sharing my nephew's account. They've been allowing it for years.

I'm currently in to Hulu. Just signed on to watch The Kardashian's.
I'm pleased w/all the movies and docs I've been seeing.
 
Another good streaming service is Apple TV; I've been thinking about getting it maybe, they have a movie of a book I really like, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey by Walter Mosley.

Sweet Tooth and Stranger Things (one of their most popular shows) both got renewals early on. They'll probably be putting a nail in their own coffin if they go to programming with ads, unless they charge more for ad free like Hulu does. Hulu actually costs about $3.39 more than Netflix for content without ads, having just raised their price a few months ago. Netflix has had issues with it's stock before because of something else unpopular that they did, then they bounced back stronger than ever. Maybe that will happen again.

I know what you mean about feeling hesitant to praise something or like something too much. It does sometimes seem that once we put that out there, something unwanted happens. That has been the case with me a few times as well. With the way streaming services are these days, if it's not available on one, it will eventually become available on another.

You can have something like 5 friends and family on your Netflix account, and the IP address doesn't matter, they just have to register.
I get Netflix through one son's account and Disney+ through my other son's account. I get HBO through my granddaughter's account, and the list goes on.

Maybe a new, extremely popular series will do it.

I have a feeling Netflix will be doing a lot of final seasons on their most expensive/least profitable shows.
 
I'd like Netflix a lot more if they'd do something about their app, which sucks big time. It's a memory hog — especially if you have more than 10 movies in your watchlist — and the auto-play is really annoying. Prime Video has a much better app.
 
the competition has just grown so much.... Netflix has not kept up
I have not found items on there i need to see......... many are just to slow going and really unreal... trying to stretch out something that should just be a movie into a series etc....

They’re probably regretting this decision. I can understand a family having their kids on it, others and their dogs, no.

Well-off friends piggy back on another friends account. I believe that a premium Netflix Canada only permits 4 devices being used at the same time. They may inadvertently be trying up the use by the less well-off family, who would never say anything. It was much more open for sharing in the beginning.

Think they assumed the share item would evolve into additional accounts instead of people sharing for year and years etc.

Tish I didn't think I'd be interested in the brother's story at all this season. After Rege'Jean left people were not happy. But during the first episode of S2, I got hooked (again). It was very good. Since you like Bridgerton so much you might be interested in a movie that's coming out which is also a romantic period piece. I read an article and saw a trailer for it the other day, now can't think of the name of the movie. Also couldn't find it in my histories; I'm sure it will be promoted again the closer to release time. It's Mr. (something or other). :unsure::rolleyes: I'm interested in seeing it but it will be in theaters before streaming.

I really dislike Prime's interface...too cluttered, but not as much as I used to hate it. Can't you disable auto play on Netflix? I uninstalled it from my tablet because it took up too many gigs.
