High cost of parts but Amazing customer service

I bought a new crisper drawer for my fridge because the old one was cracked and broken. (insert “they just don’t make em like they used to” rant here.) The company was Partselect.com. Well, the dang thing arrived broken, largely because it was poorly packed and I think the FedEx guy was none too delicate. I called the company, and after a brief stint with the automated system I was connected to a real person, and an American at that!! She listened to my story and set the wheels in motion for a refund and a replacement. I got an email almost immediately asking for pictures of the broken crisper, and I complied. It was easy, and talking to customer service was pleasant — no language barrier, clear explanation of their return policy.

on a completely different note, the crisper drawer cost me over a hundred bucks!!! Yikes! Guess it costs a lot to ship that stuff from China. It’s a GE fridge BTW.

Most all of my deliveries are from Amazon Prime and I have never had an issue with them!! Maybe due to coming from an Amazon Distribution Center direct.

USPS and UPS are a different story as to all the handling of the package!!

Mine to come from Amazon Prime.. but occasionally I order from Ebay or some other online company, who use Hermes and or DPD or in fact the Royal Mail ... Hermes is by far the worst, more packages go 'missing' from them.. or are broken on arrival ..than with any other delivery company.
Lately whenever I've called with a problem with anything it's been with English /British customer services..it makes all the difference getting things done fast, than trying to understand someone in a call centre in India...

Buying appliance parts, and the labor to replace them, can quickly add up to a major share of the cost to buy a new appliance. If one were to buy all the parts needed to "build" a $1K refrigerator, for example, the cost of all those parts would probably be $5K, or more.

Repairing the newer, more expensive appliances...stoves, etc., with their "touch" panels, and ceramic cook surfaces, etc., can cost over half the price of a new one.

Geesh! $100 for a crisper drawer?!! No wonder their customer service is so good. I also have a G.E. fridge that I've had for decades. I read an article in which a refrigerator repairman cited G.E. as the brand has had to repair less often, thus stating it as one of the better refrigerators to own. If I remember correctly, he was referring to the older models.

I've dealt with appliance companies who's customer service was excellent. One was Magic Chef, which wound up giving me a free Microwave and the other was Koldfront. Getting a replacement for a damaged counter top dishwasher was easy. I didn't even have to ship it back...just cut the cord and sent the company a picture of the serial number and severed cord.

As a sender it is absolutely best to assume all package handlers are goons. If you don't want something broken, pack it so it can't be. As a recipient you're at the mercy of the sender.

As for one carrier being better than another, it can vary widely depending who is working that day. I've seen good and bad from them all.

Talking to someone whose native language is English makes a huge difference in the experience. I’ll continue doing business with them. My daughter keeps buying from an American lady who gives great service, she doesn’t even consider anyone else now.
