Buying A New Car In 1970 - What Was It Like?

Brought a 1957 Chevy convertible in 1968, for $100.00, from another Marine who won it in a card game , I wanted to attend a wedding with a fellow Marine, I was leaving the next day to go back to Vietnam, I attended the wedding, and on the way back realized , we could not get back on base because the base sticker had run out, and I had no insurance so I could not get a temporary pass, I pulled into a service station next to the main gate, took the keys and the signed title left it on the dashboard and went on into base, next day I was back in Vietnam. Ps it would have cost me more if I had rented a car, but I sure do wish that I could have kept that car, but at the time I was facing some real problems.

Have never owned a new car. Bought a 1974 Super Beetle that was 6months old. That's as close as I have come. I do now own several classic cars, and trucks that are quite valuable, but doubt I will ever buy new. I did by a 1974 Honda 750 motor cycle new, along with a1980 international backhoe, but that made me money, cars just cost you money.

Bought my first new car in 1970, a Toyota Corolla, paid about $1,600 for it. Cheaper than a VW bug. Should have bought a dozen...
in college i bought a yellow 70 VW bug new, $2000. $70mos. drove it two years, sold it paid off my student loan and
found a 5 color Ghia for 500 bucks.
last time i was in GvilleFla i saw it in a driveway. its prolly still on the road down there. lol.
