We are about to have a new birth at our house.

About 5 feet from my chair outside, a morning dove has made a nest and has one large egg she’s setting on. You have to look close to see her, but she’s there. I read it takes 12-14 days to hatch. Daddy dove is setting on my neighbors roof keeping an eye on things.

yes it's lovely to watch isn't it.? We have collared Dives and Wood pigeons nesting here in my trees all year round, they bathe in the bird bath when it's hot, and chit in it too..... as well as other birds. The doves take no notice of me , they think my garden is theirs..

So sorry, Pappy. I do a lot of birdwatching and it can be heartbreaking sometimes.

Almost every year a bird will make a nest in the transom window over our front door so we can easily watch everything from inside. Some years the same thing happens as just happened to you, a predator gets it and we find nesting material and egg shells on the front porch, but this year was a lucky one and we got to see baby robins hatched and raised to fat little fledglings sitting on the porch chairs. Hope for next year!
