What happened to shoes & socks?

Don't get me started on flip-flops. I wear them when I am out on the patio or washing the car. I always wear some type of tennis shoe or shoe when I am going out anywhere. Flip-flops for old gross feet are not fashion when one is out. Yes, I'm old fashioned.

I hate wearing socks but I have to protect my toes. Solution: I took several pairs of the low-cut ones that I had bought (but can't seem to keep the shoes from "eating" them.....anybody else have that problem?) and cut them off halfway down. Now I have "toe socks" and they work well protecting my toes.

Good lord...^^^^^...

Nothing happened to shoes and socks here..everybody wears them.... wanna see my trainers cupboard ?..well this is one of my trainers cupboards... I have another one and a much larger boot and shoe cupboard

Holly, I have a friend called Ockie, he's an octopus, but he has nowhere near your amount of shoes, and when he comes marching down my hall, his clog-hoppers don't half make a thunderous noise. ;)😊

I like shoes, possibly because when I was a kid my parents would buy me just one pair when school opened that were expected to last the school year. I wore canvas sneakers just for gym class, and slippers at home. The freedom of being able to acquire more than one pair of functional shoes was for me a heady experience.

I’ve seen people wear flip-flops with bare feet and shorts during the winter months. Many people wear what’s now called “athletic shoes” everywhere, and don’t even own or wear actual traditional shoes out.

It’s not just footwear that’s changed, but the lack of maintenance of them. My father taught me to polish and shine shoes weekly, a practice I maintained though on a less frequent schedule. It’s painfully obvious that many people who wear actual shoes never polish them these days; they are scraped and scratched down to the raw leather.

All signs of a less classy, less formal age. A well-dressed man of my father’s generation used to wear a hat when going out, too… 👞 🎩

Just yesterday I saw a sign on a grocery store, "No Shirt No Shoes No Service". I said to myself, "I thought that fad had died 30 years ago. When in Hawaii 10 years ago, I was standing around with a bunch of people waiting for something or other, a bus maybe, and some young guy I thought was having a fingernail problem asked if any one had any nail clippers. Some old guy loaned him his, and the young guy with filthy feet, but wearing flip flops, sat down and started clipping his toe nails. After a few minutes, he returned the clippers to the old fellow. I would have told him to, "Keep the clippers," because even though they weren't mine, I was revolted by the scene.

Why does it seem everyone is going barefoot these days - even in public? When I had my garage sale, the most substantial thing I saw on people's feet were flip flops.
I went barefoot all the time when I was growing, only put shoes on for school, and my infrequent church visits. Where I grew up it was warm enough to do it year round.

Can't do that now, my feet won't take it. I do however wear flipflops when its warm enough.

I see that a lot too, but I don't think it's a question of money. Weird to see someone in the street with pajama pants & actual fuzzy/furry house slippers! Whatever.
i agree and at first it was a few then as no one seemed to care it became more and more......
funny some people simply do not know how to present themselves in Public..... no one takes anyone in PJs and slippers seriously and if they knew how many people are laughing NOT with them but at them perhaps they would dress appropriately
