For a girl, acting like a bloke isnt the most appealing behaviour in my old fashioned view

Why bloke like behavior? Maybe they see all of the attention and admiration for the super hero woman in games and movies - Wonder Woman, CatWoman, the cape-wearing female equivalent of Super Man - and think it is what guys want. It isn't the women who frequent mud wrestling by bikini clad beauties.

Yes, it seems as though everyone has something to prove. I'm not going to join in with this discussion because I know that whatever I say, I'll get jumped on.
That last remark is an indication of what is wrong with these discussion sites. It seems impossible to discuss anything without nastiness creeping in.

Lavinia, I agree, some on here simply cannot discuss without getting the taunts going. Disagree by all means, it is what a discussion forum is about, but making it personal and zeroing in on one target over and over.....sheesh.....C'mon guys and gals, try acting like ladies and gentlemen.

I for one will not discuss this further.....might get jumped on or jump off.

It's actually a great pity that it's allowed to happen because it means we don't get a proper discussion. People are afraid to express their opinions (as opposed to stating facts, which some are unable to differentiate), because they are then targeted by those who disagree.

Some of us are unnaturally sarcastic while having a grouchy month. February and May are my worst.

grahamg doesn’t speak for all of mankind. I’m still trying to figure out what his point is.
Yeah, I'm with @oldman

But

I'll just say

I like wimin

A century or so ago I saw this woman
She obviously didn't shave her legs
I was quite attracted to that feature

Maybe I'm of the Nazarene persuasion (no razor to touch them)
Don't know

I was quite attracted to Lil' Abner's Moonbeam McSwine too
a bit of dirt on a woman

Something about a woman in the rough
Maybe it's the combination of soft and rugged that allures me
Don't know

But

That's just me

I've got a few I bang on about, (so won't repeat most of them here, "as others seem well enough versed already!").

On this thread I'm genuinely trying to draw out arguments as to why "laddishness" might be on the increase in young women, plus some older ones in the case of my friend mentioned in the OP, and what might be the causes and repercussions, if its agreed this is a trend in western countries(?).

I know you really dont wish to engage with this thread, so I must be careful to try to respect that, but it is the case that very often folks getting riled up on a forum are just not used to anyone standing up to them, (and they should be getting the experience a little more in my humble view ;):cautious::whistle:).

It's not agreed. Maybe you got it all wrong. Maybe the girls aren't "laddish" but the straight guys are more femme. Yay for more androgeny! That might free up the need to prove something that is no longer necessary.

"On this thread I'm genuinely trying to draw out arguments" Why the need to draw out an argument of any kind?
Why not chose a topic that everyone would enjoy? I much prefer a nice conservation than an argument.

I was quite attracted to Lil' Abner's Moonbeam McSwine too

Quote: Moonbeam McSwine: The unwashed but shapely form of languid, delectable Moonbeam was one of the iconic hallmarks of Li'l Abner — an unkempt, impossibly lazy, corncob pipe-smoking, flagrant (and fragrant), raven-haired, earthly (and earthy) woman.

You missed one very important little word in the quote you chose, "IF", but you knew that didn't you, and "IF" you keep doing this, or do this all the time, I'd say someone has just cause to report such behaviour and make a complaint. I'd even consider breaking my rule never to complain about what someone said to me on a forum, so unfair do I believe it is to misconstrue someone's post deliberately, (but I've deliberately left some leeway or an "IF", so you may get away with it yet again!).

I just meant the word "argument" as you might use the word "discussion", (hence draw forth/out discussions or discussion points :) ).

From my point of view, this is not a discussion. I wish you well in your future endeavors in the discussion arena.
It might get there though, whatever any one thinks about my posts and why I post them, "contentious or not", (but thanks for the good wishes, and they are reciprocated!). :)

You're losing your grip graham.
"Who says so"?

No, I may just be, though not necessarily because of whatever might be said on a forum such as this one, "that isn't reality" in my view, as the consequences of someone not liking you or your views or actions on an internet forum are not very worrying, (and as nothing to ongoing legal troubles or whatever, where real financial penalties exist as we all know!)

Any reasons why both February and May have you in a spin or whatever description might fit, (who says you're more grouchy than normal other than yourself too, "are they keeping some kind of a record"?). :)

Its very hard for me to remember but I for one can't really remember having had an internet spat involving your good self, (though my not remembering such a thing ain't in any way unusual I admit!).

You've made some good points there! :)

Yep, and that comment from oldman, came from an old Marine! Who would have thought? "SEMPER FI" and God Bless that Oldman!
Much though those with military experience, particularly the marines I'd suggest, are to be admired, no one is infallible, so that fact alone doesn't overrule everything else when it comes to views on an internet forum! :)

I recently read =online, not verified= a contract U.S. Marines sign that includes that they will always tell the truth/
that is the only group I know of that has a legal contract that they will always tell the truth. /even if some do not?/

Politicians, Lawyers, Preachers, Teachers, Doctors, Drug Lords, even sadly Librarians as far as I know, have no such contract, nor compulsion to tell the truth only. Rather many of them lose their job , position, income and maybe their life, if they do tell the truth. -like a whistle-blower exposing enron like dealings, massive frauds, and such.

in the UK our lawyers, (or barristers at least, the higher up lawyers), are not supposed to lie to one another, so this allows them to try to broker deals each side is than able to stick to.

Doctors have the "Hippocratic oath", (here are some details https://www.bmj.com/content/355/bmj.i6629 )

Quote: "Hippocratic Oath: One of the oldest binding documents in history, the Oath written by Hippocrates is still held sacred by physicians"

and we all have probably heard the saying so far as doctors goes, "First do no harm", and here is another more ancient version of that statement: "I will apply dietetic measures for the benefit of the sick according to my ability and judgement; I will keep them from harm and injustice".
