Dozens of Newfoundland churches will be sold to compensate survivors of sexual abuse at Mount Cashel

The Roman Catholic church in Newfoundland was well aware of the abuse being carried out by the Irish Brothers members at Mount Cashell orphanage . Now the past is catching up with the RC church and it's lay members. Time to pay the piper. For those that don't know.....For many decades all of the schools in Newfoundland were run by the various churches, so you would have a village with a Catholic school and the next village along the coast would have a United church run school, and the next place might have a school run by the Salvation Army. Once Newfoundland voted to join Canada in 1949 the schools slowly changed over to non religious status, but the RC church continued to run some of the Provincial care homes, like Mount Cashell orphanage. I am sorry that you see it that way. The courts have ruled that the Catholic Church has to sell their buildings, to satisfy the 50 million dollar judgement that will be paid to the surviving men who were so horribly abused by the Irish Brothers at Mount Cashell orphanage back then. Individual Catholics are free to meet and pray, but they will have to find and fund their own meeting places. JimB.
