What do you mean by the emoji "WOW."

OH HI OH
For me, sometimes I respond with the "WOW" emoji because:
- something is very interesting to me.
- something is very disturbing to me.

But, other times, I've used it because my brain screams "I can't believe that YOU said that!"

Does anyone else debate with themselves as to what emoji to use and what they mean by it?

Same, basically... WOW... meaning that's Incredible... or WOW...how beautiful.. or WOW ...never heard/seen that before... or WOW.. that took me aback...

I asked that same question some time ago in another post and was told it could mean a step better then like.
I don't see it that way so never use it.
To me it is as you describe above ... disturbing

I like to use emojis to express myself ....typing with fumbly fingers and left hand is a chore for me...

If i use the 'wow' emoji that pops up with others when we hover over the 'like' button, it is usually because something seems extraordinary--but since it can be for good or ill (amazing or disturbing) i will generally also give a worded response clarifying. i rarely use emojis embedded in worded responses because i feel my use of adjectives, adverbs as 'qualifiers' is usually thorough enough to make my feelings clear.

i never have a problem with anyone asking for clarification if they don't 'get' what i'm saying.
Just as i'm not shy about asking others to clarify what they've said. Thoughtful questions can facilitate reasonable and productive discussions.

Yeah, when I get a "wow", I'm not too sure if it's a happy "wow".
And what I said about emojis in S.F., they fixed it.
I'm thinking we need a surprised/amazed wow and a definitely happy wow and keep the existing "Wow" for people posting horrible events (illness, bad luck, etc.) and maybe just a "thumbs down" or an "I agree" one. So, what did Matrix fix for you, fuzzybuddy?

There are some things that even I deem taboo. It might make some laugh but the majority might reach for the puke bucket.
The letter "W" tattooed on each buttock would spell WOW when bending over. No, I'm not going to be the one responsible, look it up. Be careful though, viewed from the opposite perspective it spells, MoM! She wouldn't be best pleased.

The emoji that bothers me is the Hug. It’s smiling. I‘d like a neutral one because my hug may be given for sad or happy reasons.

Wow, is just that. Wow, I’m surprised, just like I’d say to some IRL.

I only recently became aware of using tone indicators when texting or replying to a forum.

These abbreviations are called tone indicators, and they are meant to clarify tone in conversations that happen over text. Each abbreviation stands for it’s own tone of voice, such as sarcastic (/s), joking (/j), or serious (/srs). To use them, you add one that represents your tone to the end of your message.
Of course, I can’t remember this list when I want to use one.

Here are some examples of tone indicators (this is not an exclusive list):

/s – sarcastic

/j – joking

/srs – serious

/gen – genuine

/lh – light hearted

/nm – not mad

/pos – positive connotation

/neg – negative connotation
