The dictionary seems to assign only positive definitions to WOW. Maybe we should do the same, and not overthink it.
I think you hit the nail on the head. For me anywayFor me, sometimes I respond with the "WOW" emoji because:
- something is very interesting to me.
- something is very disturbing to me.
But, other times, I've used it because my brain screams "I can't believe that YOU said that!"
W O W ! ! ! Great find, Meanderer!
Wow - Two years ago I didn't even know what an emoji was and I only recently learned how to spell it! Now you have introduced me to tone indicators - another WOW moment. Thanks!I only recently became aware of using tone indicators when texting or replying to a forum.
These abbreviations are called tone indicators, and they are meant to clarify tone in conversations that happen over text. Each abbreviation stands for it’s own tone of voice, such as sarcastic (/s), joking (/j), or serious (/srs). To use them, you add one that represents your tone to the end of your message.
Of course, I can’t remember this list when I want to use one.
Here are some examples of tone indicators (this is not an exclusive list):
/s – sarcastic
/j – joking
/srs – serious
/gen – genuine
/lh – light hearted
/nm – not mad
/pos – positive connotation
/neg – negative connotation
I agree! (Or, with a thumbs down, I disagree!)Off topic, but just as we have a Like emoji I would like to see a Thumbs Down emoji. I don't like to respond with Sad or Angry to a post I don't like. I think Sad can be misinterpreted and Angry is over the top.
I know I can Reply with a Thumbs Down, but why take the extra step and add an extra post? Like Matrix doesn't have enough to do right now with reeling us all in!![]()
