Horrific damage and death tolls in Afghanistan after a 5.9 earthquake on Wednesday. The images of this remote, mountainous area show the massive devastation. The death toll is expected to climb, but search and rescue operations are hampered by recent floods, poor infrastructure, and sanctions against the Taliban.

"Reuters wrote that rescue efforts will be a major test for the Taliban, who took over the country in August and have been cut off from international assistance because of sanctions. Some of those sanctions were on Afghanistan's banking sector and billions of dollars of developmental aid were cut. Despite some of the sanctions, humanitarian aid has continued with international agencies such as the United Nations (U.N.).
Afghanistan asked humanitarian agencies to help with rescue efforts, according to the U.N.'s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), and teams were being dispatched to the impacted area. Bilal Karimi, a Taliban government spokesperson wrote on Twitter, the country would welcome help from international organizations."

I hope that they get help, but nobody cares for the rulers
in that country, they have no roads, where the epicentre is,
nor do they have any helicopters, they hate Westerners and
the people that they do like are in similar dire straits as far
as roads and helicopters go.
The Pakistanis are nearest and have the tools needed, but
they don't like them, same goes for the Indians and the
Iranians.
Sad really.
