What Is It? - #25

This is an odd little item, and you KNOW it takes a LOT for ME to say that!

It's inscribed "1881" and has a small piece broken off, but you can still identify it if you know your stuff.

And here's a side-view of one in perfect shape -

Note that the one in the top photo is missing the long "tail" and double-hook extension, seen in the bottom photo on the lower left side..

Oh, and it's made of metal. :p

WHAT IS IT?

Gee... it sure looks like a radical set of Knuckle Dusters to me. :)

That was actually MY first thought as well! Great minds think alike! :encouragement:

Unfortunately, although it might be used as such, that isn't what it's designed for. ;)

It looks like it could be used for something related to sewing, embroidery, or even spinning yarn, with the little separators on the side, but I have no clue how it would work. It looks like it would work with some kind of a loom, and the thread comes through the separators, and the long thing is kind of a pick if you need to pull a stitch out.

Cherry pitter?

Nope, not a pitter.

A ninja weapon of some kind. Something used in self-defence?

That's so cool, and a REAL ninja could use it as such, but no, that isn't in its original design specs.

Stumper was a good guess? I'm on a roll . . . It's a conversation piece; a knickknack for the bookshelf...

It probably would be if you had one, but that's not its true function either ...

Belt tightener?

Ouch! No! :playful:

No, nothing to do with stitches or yarn ...

I was thinking along those lines too Flowerlady, weaving or something, but it seems too broad for that so ...

... a silly one.

Pastry shaper/trimmer/cutter?

You're getting a little warmer with that last one, but you still haven't hit the jackpot yet ...

"Warmer" as in use or locale? Industrial or domestic?

A left fielder, is it anything to do with measuring woodwork, e.g. architrave/mouldings shapes?? Some of those curves and ridges look vaguely familiar.

Yes, pies is what I had in mind with the pastry question too. Apple sounds good to me.

You know we're just feeding Phil's Machiavellian need to rub his hands together and go bwaaaahahaha don't you?:biggrin-new:

So I guess this would be used in the kitchen?? Garage??
