Book of Poems from Childhood

I came across a book I remember from my childhood - "Favorite Poems - Old and New" compiled by Helen Ferris published in 1957. It's in pretty rough shape - only the spine is holding it together - the front and back covers have long departed. It is meant mainly for children and deals with a wide variety of subjects from humorous to serious and some penned by well-known authors. I started reading a few and remembered my mom reading from it to my cousin and me (this cousin lived with us for 7 years between when his father got divorced and re-married).

I remember "Uncle Arthur's Bedtime Stories" that my aunt gave me. They all had a moral, of course.
 
Is poetry no longer taught as part of English literature? How culturally poor the next generation will be!
 
The only book I can remember from childhood was Now We are Six by A. A. Milne. Lots of verse about Christopher Robin and Pooh. I gave my great granddaughter the same book when she was six. I read the poem to her which ends "now we are six and clever as clever. I think I'll stay six now forever and ever" She looked at me, frowned, and said "I don't think I believe that!"
