What are your very earliest memories

Reading another thread someone said they remember being in a crib. I have heard others say they remember very early memories. I can't remember anything before I was 4 or 5 years old. My daughter says she has memories from when she was a toddler...I wonder about others...

I've told this before on here.. but when I was around 15 years old I was recounting a memory to my mother about a strange woman holding me in her arms as we waved to my mother as she drove off in a Taxi.

She look horrified, and said '' you can't possibly remember that' you were only 14 months old''... but I had, and not only did I remember that I also remember being dropped from the top of the stairs in this strange woman's house.. to the bottom, by her young son who had been sent to get me out of my crib...and at only 9 years old couldn't hold me.. I even remember standing in the crib crying facing the wall and the bedroom door...

No-one had ever spoken about this first foster family in our house.. even despite the fast that I'd been fostered several times over the years..that first one had never been mentioned by anyone..

Probably because you forgot, for now anyway. I know people who remember a lot of very specific things about many days when they were a year old, or any year up to 5 years old, over 55 years ago... and more.... I don't remember much from last week though... smile. Nor even most of the posts today ...

Memories sometimes get revived, maybe to learn something ?

I remember reading a 'so called expert' who said no child has a memory before 3 years old.. and I thought.. what absolute rot. Not only did I remember the above at 14 months but I was abducted ( kidnapped).. in the street outside our house when I was 2 years old..

My mother let us out to play, alone.. I know, I know.. but I distinctly remember the woman coming along on a pushbike with a basket on the front. I cannot for the life of me see her face in my minds eye.now or even back then.. but at 2 I probably was not yet able to make a description.., but whatever she said to me I let her pick me up and put me in the basket.. and that's the last I remember of the whole thing.

According to my parents what happened next was there was every police officer out looking for this 2 year old toddler, and they got a call from a Bus driver at midnight, who'd found what he thought was a bundle of rags lying in the middle of the main road and he'd just missed running over it..it was me..I'd been drugged and left to be killed by traffic in the pitch dark..

they never found the woman...

So called experts are often wrong...gosh you should write a book...

Maybe very early memories are not so surprising, but I haven't heard enough stories to guess. I remember eating a bowl of snow in my highchair.

How does the memory bank work? I don't know. What is saved and what isn't? I can remember a lot up until 5 years old. Lots of dolls, puppies, games, playing at the next door neighbors every day, fun at grandparents, dad playing the piano, Santa,, remembering my uncle knocking on my grandparent's door ho ho ho so I would go to sleep. I didn't know it was him at the time. My grandparent's let their parakeet out to fly around the living room every so often. I remember pretending to go to school long before school age by walking to the park in my grandparent's neighborhood with books. All of these memories are long before school age.

I suspect you are a survivor type.

I have memories from before age 3. One very traumatic .. will not go into it here.

I hope you got your worst memory over with at 3 and the rest of life has been much better. Personally, I don't have any bad early memories, other than fussing over brushing my hair. I couldn't go outside until I brushed my hair, and I didn't like having my hair brushed. That's good news considering how much I remember up until 5, which is a lot. I'm surprised to know people don't remember much from those years. Now thinking that today I ran errands and didn't brush my hair. Ha. Oh, my mother always wanted me to put on something nice, and I always wanted to put on something comfortable. Today, I still want to put on something comfortable and don't alway brush my hair before leaving the house. There is one thing I still do that my mother did regarding my hair. When wet, she always combed it to flip up on the ends. When I wash my hair, I always comb it to flip up on the ends, although I don't brush or comb it too much until the next time it's wet.. Somehow I guess we both agreed the flip up was right for me. One length flip up.

Actually, while some so-called scientists or other 'experts' try to analyze it,
it is a mystery,
an amazing incomparable gift from the Creator.

My earliest natural memory, I was over a year because my half sisters came to live with us when i was year and we moved from trailer in 'The Giant's Camp' to a house on riverbank in Ruskin.

Not being in my crib but watching Daddy dismantle it to use the wood to repair our long skinny dock. The crib was second hand and powder blue, not sure if maybe after 3 girls he was hoping for boy so they didn't repaint it. But as long as we lived there i had a 'warm fuzzy' type feeling whenever i walked on the dock and saw patches of blue in between the weathered unpainted slats.

I have been regressed, but those memories a whole other category.
