I really miss it when I was able to

I miss the days when we could purchase new appliances without all the computer parts in them. I had to purchase a new washer recently and it has computer parts. But, at least it gives me a choice of how much water it puts in each load. It will decide for me or I can do it myself. I pick doing it myself!
I had the same washing machine for 37 years. It had an "off/on" switch and 3 settings. My new one has settings for use on the moon.

Buying light bulbs caroln, this applies to everybody, so keep it in mind:-

Different manufacturers have slightly different colours with the same name,
the same manufacturer might have a different colour, because of wear and
tear on the machine that makes them.

So when buying new bulbs, just get the fixing correct, screw or clip-on, big
or small, then buy 2 or 4, two for now and two spares.

Mike.
..or candle shaped which is what's in my chandeliers.. and my downstairs table lamps..

Remember when they outlawed all the 75 watt incandescent light bulbs? I ran to the stores and bought up
a bunch of them before they pulled them off the shelves. Still have some in my storage.
I love the soft romantic glow of the incandescents.

... go to the hardware store and buy a box of light bulbs without knowing anything besides the wattage I wanted. I recently had to buy a new light bulb for my ceiling fan to match what was already installed. I was faced with these choices (and this is a partial list):

Base:
large base
candelabra
twist and lock
Style Bulb:
"A" style bulb
candle
globe
spiral
Edison
Light type:
LED
incandescent
halogen
Bulb Color:
clear
frosted
amber
daylight
warm white
soft white
neutral white
Lumans
Kelvins (Color Temperature)

I ended up buying a bulb that was way too white, blinding, and in no way matched the other bulbs in the fixture. I went back and exchanged them for a lower Kelvin temperature and luckily it was the correct brightness. The first one was a 5000 Kelvin and the correct one was 2700. I spent 2 hours researching light bulbs in order to get the right one. (From now on I'm saving the box the light bulbs came in.)

Yes, I miss the old days of picking up a box of light bulbs.
Daylight is the worst. I have an under-the-cabinet fluorescent light fixture that needed a new tube. Went to WalMart and looked for one. No more fluorescent tubes, so I bought what they were offering instead, LED Daylight, it's all they had. Well I turned it in the fixture and it came on blazing bright like the sun. What I did was put white duct tape strips vertically all the way across the cover, thankfully the light fixture had a cover, until it was dim enough to see without shielding my eyes. Oh man, who needs that?

I miss the days before smartphones when people actually talked to you instead of being addicted to starring at their darn phones for 16 hours of their waking time and probably sleeping with them. And they say heroin and cocaine are addictive. Ha, you ain't seen nothing until you have seen the power of the smartphone over some of the zombies on this planet.

I try to not laugh when people say they dropped their cell phones in the toilet... I mean, can't people even use the bathroom without their devices? I think that's rather extreme.

I miss dining out, wether it be fast food or fine dining…..in small towns, Covid did a bad # on our restaurants.

I miss my oldest, dearest, friend, who has since passed several years ago. There was 35 years between us, but you never would have guessed. She was the perfect example of wisdom, which she passed on to me in so many different ways. Wasn’t a mother/daughter friendship….was a true friend relationship. We could talk about everything. There has not and never will be a person like her…..I was blessed to have such a friend like her.

We got to know each other from…..my first spouse and I boarded our horses there.
They were a retired couple, living on their farm homestead, only 1/2 out of town.

I miss the farm…..there was no better life. Miss birds, wildlife, my yard I created and lived my life for.

Miss life before depression.

Miss the uncomplicated world we used to have……life is so tech related. Are there any real people left in this world…..of course there are…..they’re here on SF. 😊.

It's not rare when you are addicted and live with the phone in front of you for 16 hours and then sleep the other 8 hours with the phone right there on the pillow beside you. Why? Don't ask me; ask an addict!

It used to be that most people could carry on an intelligent conversation on many different topics. Now, they grunt and groan as they text away. Texting has become, for many people, the end all and the be all of communication. It is all so sad! Smartphones often control people rather than people just using smartphones when needed. If you stare at a phone all day, you have a major mental problem regarding addiction.

I had to look up rollator. I've never heard a walker called that.
In dealing with my mom’s health care providers and government bureaucracies last year I quickly had to learn there is a difference and to not confuse the two.

in regard to the question, I really miss when I was able to squat or kneel quickly and get up just as quick without pain and grunting.

My husband. This is what I miss most of all. Not just going out or on vacation, but everyday life with him. Just being together. There was no one whose company I enjoyed more than his.💘

Bella ✌️
my husband worked 15 hour days, so I never got to see much of him on a daily basis.. except weekends.

I miss when people felt pride in their responsibilities, instead of enitilment for their diffencies. When movies stars were entertainers instead of political mouth pieces testifying before Congress, when athletes played to win and for their team instead of every play being an audition for the cameras. I miss when teachers had the right to teach and not worry about losing their job for failing a kid or disciplining a kid. When police were respected and able to do their jobs. I miss being that nieve kid who thought politicians worked for us and for our benefit. I miss those old farmers who taught me to shut up and work, and how to be resourceful with what you have.

I miss what I thought the world would be.

I have a smart phone.. I wouldn't dream of walking along the road looking at it like I see so many people doing... nor would I be glancing at it while in conversation with others. I really always want to ask people what they are looking at that can't wait for a few minutes...
