Had to have a chat with house cleaner today

She does a good job, but tends to do more than I ask of her. She was cleaning in the bed room today. She came out and said I cleaned your nightstand drawers (which I did not want her to do. She took stuff OUT of the drawers ( an envelope with money, cough drops etc) and put them on top of the stand. I had to ask she not go into my drawers, and if stuff is INSIDE the drawers, they are there because I want them there. WHy would I want a pile of cough drops sitting on top of the table? So I had to go back and undo everything she did. So I told her next time just vacumn and change the sheets (if they need it), I am not sure what she thought she was accomplishing by piling everything from my drawer onto the bed and nightstand.

I would fire her immediately. No cleaner cleans inside drawers and that she told you she did is a set up. Fire her by text right away. I'm sure your apt. isn't that dirty. It's too peculiar.

I find that to be very intrusive.

Maybe a good sign you might want to keep looking for another housekeeper. Seemingly she might not be the right one for you. It helps to find someone with good references you can verify. Also, if you ask people not to come if sick, sometimes they won't tell you due to needing the pay. So much to sort for a little help.

Marginal jobs have nothing to do with intelligence or education. It's a way to make decent off the books money. I've known actors, artists and people who hate offices to be cleaners.

Couldn't get this thread out of my mind. Please fire her Marie, unless you know her references, hopefully even personally. It's very wrong what she did, like she was proving she was "trustworthy" for some suspicious reason.

It was like she was saying "See? I could steal but I don't." A set-up? In NYC if a passerby says "You dropped something" don't look down. :cautious:

I’d give her the benefit of the doubt this time. Just explain that these are private spaces and you don’t want her doing this again. You could even ask her why she did. She may not have a clue that she was overstepping her bounds.

Nosy and/or not too bright? Either way, overstepping definitely, she might have gone through everything you own. If you've decided to keep her, Marie. I'd be in whatever room she was cleaning. I wouldn't leave her alone. Keep an eye on her. 😉

Fire her now. Call or text her and tell her its has bothered you about her actions of cleaning drawers you never asked her to do, and that after speaking to several others about what she did and being advised to fire her you agree.

Letting her know others know what she did is a safety measure.

I never felt comfortable having a housekeeper.
That's me. When we were talking about what we were going to do when we won the lottery I was thinking I wouldn't get a house bigger than my present 2100 square feet because I can keep this much clean myself, but couldn't do much more.

We've been dilly dallying about calling an electrician and getting anew stove for a month now because we just dread strangers coming in the house.

I don't like having strangers in my home either. I had repair men today. When they came to my door, I opened my garage door and let them in that way, so they could head directly into the basement to do their work. I don't let anyone in the house unless absolutely necessary, and I never leave anyone doing any type of work alone in my home, ever.

If you ask people about housekeeping stories you hear so much.
