Sense of Taste

Tastebuds in the mouth die regularly and are replaced with new ones.
The lifespan of a tastebud is estimated to be about 10 days.

Sweet, sour, salty....etc.

What's your preference?

Any cravings? or aversions?😝

... might save many lives - switching to real and simple stevia.
I tried Stevia & found it to have a terrible bitter taste.
Actually, for coffee or tea, it's not necessary to use any sugar substitute because regular sugar has only 4 gms per teaspoon. I only use 1/2 teaspoon in my coffee & that 2 gms doesn't make any difference. Even a medium-sized apple or orange has 15 gms sugar.
The real sugar problem is in processed food & drinks. A 12-ounce can of soft drink has 40 gms sugar & most people drink more than one can/day. One slice of pie: 80 gms sugar. :)

I love sweets but I also like the sweet and salty combo. And sometimes I want something salty. I crave ice cream, almost constantly but am trying to get that under control (again). Lately I've been eating more chocolate than usual...just stocked up on Russell Stover sugar free chocolate candies. Also have a bag of Bueno minis here. They are so good. I never knew that about tastebuds...fascinating! It makes me wonder then, if they are replaced every 10 days, why do some COVID sufferers not get their sense of taste back, sometimes for months?

I also love sweet and salty. When I was working, one of our clients used to send various flavored popcorn to our office. I loved mixing the cheese and caramel popcorns together. Is that weird?

Not any weirder than anything else I've heard. How about this one. I never had the nerve to try it. My brother used to tell me that coffee mixed with orange juice was good. I don't like popcorn but love Popcorners Kettle Corn flavor.

Sometimes people have not had "taste" for years,
not realizing it is a common zinc deficiency,
and zinc also happens to be a good part of the immune system working.
I've been taking zinc daily for several years. Before I started taking it on the regular, I'd get terrible colds at least twice a year...from either my husband or my youngest grandson. Since zinc, I've only had maybe twice, mild symptoms that lasted only a couple of days,

Not weird at all! Costco even carries a popcorn for you (us) weirdos lol.

Funny, years ago i had a bad case of the flu - it was like I could lick my arm and taste salt after I got over it. As though salt got leached out of my body. Didn't want to eat beef - it tastes sweet - and really do taste salt "over the top". For years I've not eaten red meat.
Want lightly salted products. Don't eat added sugar, basically.

Okay...this begs the question...why would you lick your arm? :D

I also take Zinc. And if I get a cold I take Zicam, which also contains Zinc and shortens the duration of the cold.

I'm one of those genetically modified individuals that know cilantro tastes like soap! I love sweets, but have sadly moved away from chocolate since Covid19. The older I get, the more I crave salt - which is NOT good, given my diagnoses. Most recent craving is for apricots. I'm addicted to apricot-filled puff-pastry!

Orange peels dipped in dark chocolate are one of my favorite types of candy, so I think your brother was onto something!
I like orange chocolate too. I think I used to eat candy with that combination but now I can't think of it what it was. I don't like cilantro...it tastes bitter to me. I'm seeing it used in a lot of places that serve salads these days.
