Food is going to h*ll

Man, I get so upset about the quality of what passes for food these days.
Where I live, I go into south San Diego for shopping. There is not one decent deli in all of south San Diego. I sure would love to stock up on quality corned beef, salami, etc.
One day, being quite hungry, i stopped off at Subway and ordered a hot roast beef sub. My God, what a pitiful excuse for a sub.
A few weeks ago I wanted a chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy. No such luck. No local restaurant had it.
Here, in south San Diego, there are literally hundreds and hundreds of taco shops , but if you want a decent sub, you'll have to make it yourself.
We discovered living out west (CA and AZ) doesn't have the same kind or quality of food that we've had living in MI and PA. Subway??? I can't stand them. They are the worst subs ever!

This is why I make a lot of things from scratch. I lean more toward Organic..big difference - especially organic meats. My hubby purchased KFC today... I was not able to eat it - taste like they overcooked it and cooked it in old grease. Don't get me wrong, it I was hungry and there was nothing else to eat, my mouth and KFC would become BFF.:ROFLMAO:

I overheard a little girl ask her mother if they could live in a subway.
I think people love the food they ate growing up. Unless you grew up in very poor. To others that ssame food is exotic and to be avoided or misunderstood
Like kosher or soul food and unusual foreign dishes. Germans think tacos are exotic

Eating out & expecting great food comes in the category of you get what you pay for. And even then it's iffy. Retirement turned into the opportunity to prep great meals at home. YAY!!
Boy, ain't THAT the truth
My lady can fix anything and make it better (much better) than what's in the eateries now.
And....
It's much less expensive

And....
We know what's in it

Yes, the best thing is to cook at home. Get what you want, save money, know it was cooked in a clean kitchen with fresh stuff. I like to go out and would but for me it is only and occasional thing. I feel bad for those who can't cook either because it is not something they do or their health makes it hard.

Going to do a little cookup today, sour cream chicken enchiladas, barbecue country pork ribs, cole slaw, sauted yellow squash with onions. I think we just had the lemon pie day and that started a craving. It is on my list. I will have food for the rest of the week. I only have to cook once and clean the kitchen once.

We very seldom eat out or go to fast food places. As we've gotten older, we find "restaurant" food gives us indigestion or diarrhea. We think it's from the preservatives they put in food to keep it "fresh". Whatever the reason, it's a waste of money also.

I recently bought an air fryer and we've been making a lot of things with it. I love it and it's healthier because you don't cook in oil. Easy peasy and the clean-up is quick and you don't heat up the house.
