British & Australian TV Shows on PBS in America.

I'm 2/3 German and 1/3 British, but have always felt closer to the British, since I've been to the UK, and there is no language barrier. Although some British and Americans might not always understand each other when they speak. I've been watching British Television programs for over 50 years here on PBS. I have seen some Australian shows also. Here are the non American TV shows that I own on DVD.

Murder in Suburbia (love Detective Sgt. Emma Scribbins!)
The Coroner (love this show)
The Avengers (just the 51 Emma Peel episodes)

Those are many of my favorites too! I don't own them but I am blocks from the library and just check them out when I want to watch. I also DVR many on PBS to watch at my leisure.
 
Welcome to the forum Paladin. One of my best friends used to love Keeping Up Appearances. I've only seen parts of a couple of episodes but it does look funny. And my former best friend from childhood was very much into The Avengers. I haven't had cable in going on 4 years, so no longer have PBS.

My wife and I were driving through Tennessee from Chattanooga to Memphis, it was a very remote area, I tell you that because we pulled into a gas station come diner, where we took a break, fuelled up and enjoyed a cooked meal.
The lady in the restaurant kept coming back to our table, time and again. Finally she said that she so loved our accents and that her favourite TV show was: "Morse." Morse! Out here, in the back of beyond, the mind boggles.

yes it was fabulous.. when it was current there was a few people here who watched it and loved it.. they were one series behind in the USA.. Sadly like some of these drams that go on too long this one did itself no favours in the final series.. ridiculous plot lines etc..
 
The Hour, Acceptable Risk, Broadchurch, The Missing, Unforgotten.....
..... all great crime/drama on PBS and some of our local stations here.
and forgot to add rerun of Hamish McBeth....not much crime but fun.
 
Of the original list, I own Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. It's great fun. We don't see a lot of films from Australia here, but there are some outstanding ones that make it to this side of the world. One that comes to mind right away is Predestination, and I would put in my Top Ten list of all Sci Fi films. It's a complicated plot based on a short story by Robert Heinlein that requires several watchings to understand.

My husband is the Head of department on a certain very well known TV show and has been responsible for many other well known British TV shows in his career ..both Drama and Light entertainment .. and it always boggles his mind that people the other side of the world are viewing, he has to stop thinking about that, because he always says.. he'd get nervous knowing millions other than just Brits are watching his work..

However we were once in a remote part of Greece.. and as we walked past an old finca/Bar way in the mountains .. we could clearly see that the customers and staff were watching his show ... ..it always took his feet from under him to know that people all over the world were watching.. and he never tells anyone.. aside from people who needed to know.. but for example if we'd gone into that bar, he wouldn't have mentioned that he was partly responsible for that show..

With all the mention of old British TV shows.. most of which we in the UK have seen a zillion times on repeats... one of my faves , and I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet is.. Inspector George Gently..

I suggest if you haven't seen it.. especially those of you who like similar shows like Midsommer Murders ... seek it out, I'm sure you'll enjoy it..
