2 Became Sick, One Woman Died at Bay Area Facility From Dishwasher Liquid Served to Her.

I can't imagine being in such a hurry or so careless as to serve dish washing soap to elderly people like that. I'm with @Nathan, suspicious. May the person who died rest peacefully, and I think the family should sue at least.
The facility, I'm sure is in high attorney mode. One of the things discussed today, including people calling in, was there could be language barriers. I have heard of this before, people without a good grasp of English, working at jobs, especially in the San Francisco bay area.

This is in no way an excuse or a put down to those people. It was discussed as a possible contributor. Some people called in stating had to be an accident, others were suspicious.

You would think it would have showed signs of sudsing as it was being poured. Such a terrible thing! OMG..I can't imagine if that had been my mother. I smell a lawsuit coming. I wonder if action will be taken to close the facility or just monitor that site more closely.

OK, here's a clearer picture of what happened:

The investigation revealed new information about the accidental poisoning at Atria Park of San Mateo, an assisted living facility. The incident killed one and sent two more to the hospital.

According to sources, a security video shows a worker using the chemical Ecolab 66, a heavy-duty bathroom cleaner and disinfectant, to clean. The chemical was in a large container and the worker decided to put some into a smaller jug.

However, the smaller jug the worker chose is the same type the facility used to serve fruit juice. Another worker confused the containers and served the chemical jug instead to the residents.

Regardless of language, don't you think that orange juice or other juices served would be in a refrigerated section and not where dish soap and cleaning supplies are kept? Regardless, it's a tragic outcome, my sympathy to the family.

Yes, one would think. Some of those kitchens can be small. I don't know. But apparently they have cameras which is where the above information came from.

Also some of those juices come in concentrated packaging that does not need to be refrigerated and then it's reconstituted. Working in a nursing home kitchen was another one of the high end jobs I've done.

Thanks Remy. I have little experience with nursing homes, I used to go with my girlfriend to visit her mother many years ago. When my father in law who was living with us during his last years passed on, I went to a local nursing home to put up a bulletin that I had a wheelchair to give for free that was in excellent condition and some other accessories used for stroke victims, like unopened packages of bed pads and diapers, etc. A nice lady came over within a couple of hours and was very thankful to get what I had for her father.

Never was behind the scenes, nice to know you were doing something good for the elderly. 🧡
