Heard this on the radio coming back from feeding the feral cats. I remember that evening very well.
Her driver was drunk - 4 times over the legal limit for driving. That's what killed her.
For some people, alcohol has an effect that causes them to believe they can do anything & they will take reckless chances - like her driver did, playing a game with photographers, thinking it would be fun to outrun them.

WE get this every year on her death. First ..second.. 3rd.. now 25th... I think people will still be saying into the next century.. !! She wasn't a Saint by any stretch of the imagination.. she was cruel and manipulative to many which is why she had few friends by the time she died... and her closest friend ended up being the Butler.. however.. she should never have been placed in the position that she ultimately ended up in.. by 2 far more Selfish people..

The last I heard on the news the evening before was she was expected to recover.. so it was even more of a shock when I went to my father's house the next morning and he said he'd heard on the radio that she'd passed away.

I was on a canoe camping trip down the Green River, a week with no news, so I was late in hearing. Always sad when someone passes, particularly young and in that way.

My wife and I and 3 of our 4 daughters were coming home from visiting my oldest daughter who had a summer park job at International Falls, MN. She had needed her appendix removed while working there, and I believe it was done by the only available surgeon in town who did all of the operations. She was fine and resumed work after the rest of us left.
At any rate, the 5 of us were driving home that day after a late start, and we had been driving for quite some time in Wisconsin. It was nighttime and fog had set in; we were not quite sure where we were at. Then the news came in over the radio! Very surreal!! That's when we decided to find the nearest hotel (which we did) and settled in for the night. An experience I will never forget!
At any rate, the 5 of us were driving home that day after a late start, and we had been driving for quite some time in Wisconsin. I have neither heard nor read anything negative about Princess Diana so I was surprised to read your comment. Non of us are angels therefore I would find it difficult to picture her in another light? sorry, can't find the word for what I want to say

you've never heard or read anything negative about Diana.,? wow!! that's quite incredible because ever since before she died there has been many revelations about her behaviour towards others..I have neither heard nor read anything negative about Princess Diana so I was surprised to read your comment. I'd got up at 5am for work.. I automatically turned the TV on.. and it had been on QVC channel the night before , and all there was on the screen was silence and the Union Flag.. with an R.I.P Diana message, so I quickly turned to the news, and it was playing out on every channel.
A real shock, who would expect her to have died, not me for sure... but she played such a cat and mouse game with the press, in retrospect it was hardly surprising that someone somewhere was going to be hurt in some way...

yes it may well have been , and probably would have, especially as she was a back seat passenger.. No seat belt... drunk Driver going way over the speed limit through a narrow Tunnel.. just a disaster waiting to happen.. The only survivor was the Front seat security man who was wearing a seat belt..

I actually have. And I know it was on some TV program. A number of years ago. I do remember people speaking that she could be manipulative. Seems most programs make a positive outlook on her life. She's certainly been analyzed and I guess no one would want that.

I have never read anything negative online, I do not read newspapers, eg national enquirer, so now I'm wondering when and where these revelations occurred. Her children would be so hurt to read that about their mother. I must admit after H and MM left the UK I have been fascinated by the dynamics amongst the royal family, the media at this time seems over the top especially where MM is concerned she's everywhere these days. I often wonder what Diana would have thought of her children not getting along.
