Was I just insulted? Store manager obviously disappointed I didn't buy more

Picked up a few things from a supermarket, small tab they were polite, professional but obviously disappointed I didn't buy more. Seemed frustrated.

Store opened over the last year and is touted as a discount store but unfortunetly inflation makes it seem like a Whole Foods or Trader Joes. Supermarkets have better regular price in some cases. They really might be frustrated I get that but every sale from a customer high or low especially a return customer should be appreciated. I make a lot of little trips including trips there. The store sends out a lot of coupons that incentivize larger purchases.

I hope I'm making something out of the nothing.

Maybe they are close to going out of business. But it isn't like any individual customer is going to be able to fix that. I haven't had your experience in a supermarket, but have felt like a disappointing customer in small shops a few times in the past.

They might have to change their strategy because I've been in different company stores(they're franchised) because it looks like they are trying to cater to the upper end bigger spenders. Which conflicts with their advertising, promotions etc. They need more common stuff at lower prices. There's a lot of exotic stuff. They do get a alot of odd lots but other suppliers & stores wound up with extra/stuff that didn't sell for a reason.

I think their pre opening survey's, research has them thinking people are of the income of home owners but there are a huge amount of apartments in the area and a neighboring town is not on the pricey side.

So true
You ring 'em back with appreciation

Was anything actually said, or just body language, or facial expression?
Body language, tone. It's almost like they said here's another customer buying basic stuff.

Just mentioned I think they were hoping for bigger spenders thus their expensive assortment of stuff they sell. You can't buy a pack of Oreos or plain Herschy chocolate bars but can buy one with just about every nut known to man. Same for coffee. Fancy coffees more than triple the common stuff but also triple the price.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Sometimes they might be going through their own office politics or issues and the customer sees this. I've had that happen in the past and thought nothing of it.

OK, ya'll know some secret, what's the appeal of nutritional yeast?
Wife sez 'it's good for ya'
I jus' say 'it's good'

She makes some mighty good vegan patties with it
Rolls 'em in a bowl of it
Then lightly fries it....I think
Dip those skinny steaks in mayo

We have one in town

Not the best prices, but they have some items you can't get at other stores here, like nutritional yeast
(I like it on my popcorn)
WINCO Foods sells nutritional yeast in their bulk session if you shop at one in your area. I thought they were in Oregon.
