My former residence is on the market

I sold my mother's house to a construction company that changed virtually everything including the floor plan and even some of the foot print. When I went to the open house, I was half sad, half relieved that it no longer felt like her home.

May the new incarnation of your family home bring another family a peaceful escape hatch from the world, and joyful memories.

I’m a bit surprised that they kept the corner cabinets in the dining room.

They are nice but the Colonial look seems out of step with the Victorian/Modern blend in the rest of the house.
Don't you think they did that to give some storage in otherwise dead spaces? It looks like there isn't enough room for a hutch in that room so the corner cabinets can fill that need.

Along with the basement needing work. The electrical & plumbing should have been brought up to code. Looks like the roof, the windows, the crumbling brick, fallen kitchen ceiling were all part of the renovation. Quick sale might be due to the hot housing market cooling down some. All in all Deb did a good job of showing the difference between then & now.

Probably the case. When we put our house up for sale, half the neighborhood stopped by to have a look. Nosy neighbors. :)
I sometimes did that when a house with the same layout as mine was up for sale. It was interesting to see the wide variety of remodels people had done since the neighborhood was built in the early 60s. Some were inspirational, others were cautionary tales. o_O

Fantastic, excellent work on those before and after pictures, @debodun
🤩🤩🤩

Personally myself, I wouldn't go; I would have satisfied my own interest by viewing the pictures, and for myself, I would prefer to hold and keep my own memories of the feelings and experiences of being there with family.
Each to their own on what's best for themselves to do, regarding going to the opening.

I too , had wondered how any new buyers would interact with those particular neighbors, unless the same house flipper, bought those properties, as well!

I did go to the open house.

Even though the photos showed much of the interior, I had to orientate between what I remembered and what was renovated.

They did away with the downstairs bedroom and bath and made it into the kitchen. What was once the kitchen is now a laundry room and they took out all those old wall cabinets and door to the cellar. They also did away with the walk-up stairs to the attic. The entrance is now a pull-down in the upstairs hallway ceiling (I didn't go up, though). The upstairs walk-through closet was used as space for another bathroom. There are now 2 full baths upstairs side by side with a wall between.

What shocked me the most was the cellar. They did absolutely nothing to it. It is still damp and I saw standing water on the floor; surprising since we've had a very dry summer. Why would they put all that effort and expense fixing it up and not take care of the cellar? Also none of the bricks on the north side were repointed. One contractor I had look at it 2 years ago said they should be repointed or they would eventually fall out and perhaps the whole wall.

All the time I was there (from about 1 to 1:45 pm) no one else showed up. The showers only mentioned one other man stopped and that was the man that lives next door! I think the price is scaring people away. They are asking downstate prices.
