Regardless of how long I've been stuck in the Midwest, I still get "You're not FROM.." nearly every time I meet anybody.
A couple of times, two different guys actually said (almost same words) "I can certainly tell YOU'RE not from Iowa.. you're POLITE!" :ROFLMAO:

I think hers was a bit more real, Rue McClanahan was from Oklahoma, kind of southern. I think Michael Cain did the best faked southern accent.

Interesting, I suppose we all have our regional rivalries, mostly "All crazy nonsense" as you say. Yours is a bit backwards from ours, Southerners are generally thought of as poorer and less educated. Yankees as more the rich snobs. The US Civil War, or the war of Northern Aggression as we call it, was probably the most important event in US history, after the Revolutionary War anyway. And while it has created lingering feelings, particularly in the South, I think even most of us Southerners now recognize it as what ended slavery, a good thing.

Oh, when you travel to the US South be careful who you call a "Yank", very different meaning here, LOL!

It can vary, though. When I lived in Lousiana, I noticed some who were born/raised there had such heavy accents I couldn't understand anything they said, while others had no noticeable accent at all. I recall my boss told me to refer to a certain city as "N.O." because not for anything could I get the name out without choking on my vocal chords!!

yes it's the very opposite here.. the South is the most affluent... ( London etc ).. and the driest and hottest part... .. even the accents.. In the North words tend to be a drawl.. ( like the US southern states).. wheareas here in the South, not so... altho' here in London and the Home Counties they have their own more clipped accent

Rue's accent on Golden girls was very much exaggerated for her part as the Southern Belle..which is why I felt that guy was doing the same thing

We in the Uk don't use the word Yank as a name for anyone.. it's simply used in it's true meaning as to ''Pull''

It does vary, both of my parents were born and raised in Louisiana. Mother's accent was quite noticeable, but my father had none. Mother was from north Louisiana, accent more typical southern. Father was from south Louisiana, quite different. All of my father's family have the south Louisiana accent, no idea why he didn't.

Despite being from the south I have lost most of my accent. Though here in Utah the locals can sometimes tell I'm southern, maybe its the y'alls...
 
Other than a set up/scam still unclear why he tossed the woman out. Said she had called to go to physical therapy. The bystander who photographed this also hit by driver as he drove away.

The brazen audacity of these criminal thugs rarely surprises me anymore.

Real life has become a dystopian movie like RoboCop or Death Wish where the criminals were portrayed as drugged up freaks but those characters are pale in comparison to what's going on today.
 
Some of the drivers are nuts, period. Some of the passengers are too. Not me of course.

even we've heard of Crazy NYC traffic, I think it's well known throughout the western world for all the hooting and honking ..:ROFLMAO:...that said...London traffic would drive you nuts too.. except people have not got their hands glued to the horn...

well she had her walking stick in one hand, her bag and phone in the other... so I doubt she had a gun...

Police say the woman got into a dispute with the driver after he missed the drop-off point for her physical therapy appointment.
She asked if he could go around the block and drop her directly out front, and that's when he decided to get out of the car and physically remove her.
The passerby, Ezra Halawani, stepped in to confront the driver, who pulled away and struck him with the car, causing bruising to his arm.
"She was pulled out by force," he said. "She could've walked out by herself. She could've gotten up on her own. He dragged her out of the car and was about to leave her on the floor. It's pretty sad that the world has people like that in it."

The driver had the woman's phone in his hand, and Halawani got it back before the driver left.
"He was trying to get away with her phone, and not because he wanted to steal her phone, but because he didn't want her to be able to call somebody for help," he said. "Her shoes ended up on two different sides. She needed help, not only getting up, but getting her shoes back on."
Medics took both the woman and Halawani to the hospital. The woman is now resting at home, and while her family is requesting privacy, they say she is rattled and thankful that Halawani stepped in to help.
The search continues for the driver, though authorities say they know his identity.

"The cowardly attack on an Access-A-Ride customer is appalling and completely counter to every value of the program," MTA Spokesperson Michael Cortez said. "We will work with the NYPD and the TLC to ensure that appropriate justice is served."
The NYS Federation of Taxi Drivers also put out a statement saying it also doesn't condone this type of behavior and says it supports the TLC's immediate suspension of the driver.

The worst traffic I've ever encountered in the US was Washington DC. What a nightmare that was. Even so, the traffic in Rome, Italy surpassed DC. Florence wasn't much better. And talk about crazy drivers. Eek!

yes all of Italy is like that.. Rome and Paris are pretty much equal as well... I never drive in either of those cities, always take public transport... metro etc.. The best place to drive is Germany.. they have no speed limit on the Autobahn.. but everyone drives with respect for other people,... so there's few accidents..

Oooh I have a story... when one of my cousins was in the Army and stationed in Germany, his wife went into labor.. and my cousin actually delivered the baby while speeding down the Autobahn! I thought that was impressive!!
