America's Got Talent is one of my favorite televisions shows. Any other aficionados out there? The 11 finalists for 2022 are now set. Do you agree that these are the best this year?

A few general comments from me:
Magicians have won 2 of the last 4 seasons, and there are 2 magician finalists this year. America (voters) like magicians. I don't.
Despite Howie's wishes, comedians don't do well.
The 4 judges this year, I think are probably the best combination of all time.
Darci Lynne (2017 winner) is my favorite act (so far anyways). Kodi Lee (2019 winner) is also excellent. Simon ranked them #2 and #3 of his favorite Golden Buzzers ever (#1 was Nightbirde).
I agree with the wildcard selection (Celia Munoz) tonight. (She's a ventriloquist of course.)
There are some really excellent technological innovations this year.

Do you have any opinions on AGT and its contestants, past and present? Who do you think will win this year? I'll let you know my thoughts, assuming I get any replies on this thread.

One other major observation. With the exception of the Olate Dogs act in 2012, all of the winners have been solo performers. Will that change this year?

Do you have any opinions on AGT and its contestants, past and present?
I liked it early on

Especially the try outs

Not so much the playoffs

Seems Simon has gone soft

Angelina Jordan remains my all-time favorite

not sure if this clip is AGT as she gets around

Yes that is quite good!

Maddie (young girl) gave a great audition performance (singing) this year, but unfortunately her next performance wasn't up to par. Maybe the novelty of it couldn't be duplicated a second time.

I watch AGT but it's not the show it used to be. Seems like they're desperate for talent.
I disagree. I think that they generally have gotten more unusual and diverse each year. Many of the acts now have a more professional look than in years past. Many are looking for a big payout (no not the $1M) in terms of getting noticed and booked in Las Vegas and other venues.

We watch AGT but wonder why it's called America's Got Talent when many of the contestants are from all over the world. Then while cute some "talent " clearly wouldn't draw people to pay to watch them as a Vegas show headliner.

But all in all as a variety show it's interesting.

I also wonder how some acts [especially large groups] that come from poverty stricken backgrounds are able to come up with fantastic matching wardrobes to perform in.

In a lot of cases, those groups have won or placed high in the _________'s Got Talent in other countries all ready. I don't know if Simon owns or has his finger in those programs, but I have a feeling that AGT itself pays for them to come for "human interest". Note how so many acts have "sob stories" now....my mom died, I had brain cancer, I was bullied, we're homeless and living on the streets, etc. A good sob story is always good for business. As far as costumes and sets, once you get past the first appearance, the show does everything for you...costumes, background singers, special effects, unless,of course, you already have them.

AGT, like other "reality shows", has very little resemblance to actual reality. Call me a Doubting Thomas, but I think who moves on to the finals has less to do with the "people" voting and more with what Simon wants. He's in the business of promoting talent and making money.

I've had two relatives on the show. No, neither one made it past the first appearance...one got four red X's right away. I could understand why......

I watched it when it first came on to see what it was about but hardly at all any more. The talent is usually mediocre for the most part, and like other shows with a panel of judges, the judges tend to go overboard whether it's warranted or not. If there is nothing else on worth watching, I'll take a peek once in a while.

Thanks that explains a lot. And yes I too think Simon has a money interest in the outcome.

I think the show's producers front the money, much like TV court shows like "Judge Judy" pay for plane fare, hotels & meals for the litigants.
It's worth it to them for a show with high ratings.

Yea yea, all of your comments are at least partially true. Geez, what a bunch of cynics! I watch it for the entertainment value, which is why it's there just like anything else.

At any rate, I predict that the two "final finalists" will be Metaphysic and Chapel Hart, either of which will break the stranglehold that solo performers have had on winning AGT. I will give an updated prediction on next Tuesday night following the final performances. My personal favorite is Kristy Sellars. You can see performances by all 11 acts at web sites such as:
AGT 2022: All the America's Got Talent Season 17 Acts in the Finale | NBC Insider

Celia Munoz (ventriloquist), the Myyas (Lebanese dancers), Kristy Sellars (pole dancer), Metaphysic (high-tech voice-over singers), Mike E. Winfield (comedian), Sara James (singer), Nicolas Ribs (magician), Chapel Hart (country western singers), Yu Hojin (magician), Drake Milligan (guitarist singer), Avery Dixon (saxophonist) are the 11 finalist acts.

I thought it was very entertaining this year, especially with the variety. (have to admit most of the singers bore me.)
But I’m not enjoying this part as much because I feel like they’ve gone too overboard on lighting and scenery & can hardly see the performers. ((and getting bored with Sophia’s bosom and Simon’s grubbiness. )

AGT...as with BGT ( Britains' got Talent).. is owned by SYCO... Simons' Company... and has spawned spin offs in 69 countries.

the show first aired in the UK... but due to presenter problems.. it was shelved while Simon took it to the USA where the first full series was shown

I have watched many of the BGT acts on Youtube. Lots of entertaining performances! One that I found to be particularly enjoyable is the "pianist turns into orchestra!"

Just in case anyone is interested, the final performances were last night Tuesday September 13 2022. All the acts did well, except Chapel Hart unfortunately. The magicians were ho hum in my opinion (did I mention that I don't care for magicians?).

You can tell when the judges praise an act but do not explicitly think the performer can win, then that performer will not. At the very end of the show, Howie says he expects the two finalists will be Drake Milligan and Mayyas, and that is kind of a telegraph to the viewers who to vote for. Only single human solo performers have ever won AGT (a dog act won in 2012), and I don't think that will change tonight (in other words, I think that Milligan will be the 2022 winner). (By the way, I claim no great expertise in my predictive skills.)

My favorites were Celia Munoz, Metaphysic (perhaps the technological novelty might be too much to win?), and Kristy Sellars (Simon said she has a chance to win, but going first in the final is a very bad place to be). The results will be tonight.
