Dermatologist appointment this morning

Went in for my yearly skin check. I had a basal cell carcinoma removed from my lower eyelid 10 years ago, but other than that I haven’t had any skin issues other than some skin tags which keep growing in different areas, and she them freezes off, and some keratosis Polaris.

This year was no different, several more skin tags frozen, several more keratosis Polaris frozen, but I’m all good till next year!

I’m grateful that I haven’t had any skin issues to speak of, I was a beach bunny for the entirety of my younger life, and never protected my skin. So things could’ve turned out quite differently. A dear friend of mine passed away several years ago from melanoma issues that ravaged his entire body. It was very sad. So glad I’m not in that situation.
 

I was a life guard and every year I go in for a check, my doctor finds a Melanoma? Yikes! Has been scary, but so far after he carved them out of my face, they came back with clean margins, meaning they should not spread in my body. He also is a skilled surgeon and you can hardly see the scars on my face, even though the cuts were large and had 1/4" margins around the spot. Time for me to go back in, not looking forward to it, but it beats getting cancer elsewhere in my body.

Folks get checked yearly by a licensed Dermatologist!

Husband died from metastatic basal cell, very rare but can happen. He worked in the Texas sun for 18 years. He was not one to go to the doctor. He would not go for me, so I told on him to his Mom. He went. Years later we found out it had metastisized. Please have a skin check once a year!! Early detection and treatment will save your life.
 

I keep getting these spots on my arms and the backs of my hands
They appear, then....they go away
Is it just a geezer thing, or should I be concerned?

Ron gets exactly the same kinda marks too. It’s bruising. That old skin of yours can’t take the beatings it used to take. 😂

It’s when the marks DON’T go away that you need to be concerned!

Yes, please!!! And by an actual medical doctor who is specialized in dermatology. (The last I knew there were still some states where people without an MD or DO could still be licensed as "dermatologists".)

Some years ago my dermatologist found a small melanoma on my left ear. Thankfully, it was successfully removed. Melanoma is deadly.

At the time, my dermatologist told me that the cancer developing in this location is not uncommon among older men in the US because . . .
- drivers in the US sit on the left side of the car, exposing the left side of the head to more sunlight,
- men of our generation have typically done more driving than women,
- women's hair styles more commonly cover the ears, protecting them from sunlight.

Of course, any person, regardless of gender or age can develop a melanoma anywhere on their body, but it's just something that we men should be aware of.
 
I go to the dermatologist every year and each time he freezes several Basal cell growth. Additionally, I have had four Squamous growths cut out over the last 15 years.
I take it very seriously. Several friends of mine have died from skin cancer

I'm not on that, but maybe the losartan or amlodipine might.
