This morning, I baked an oatmeal cake for breakfast. This afternoon, I placed an order on Amazon and wrote an email to a friend. Then I looked for winter slippers online. In a few minutes, I'll go into the kitchen to prepare dinner, which is going to amount to heating up leftovers from yesterday, having a salad that's already made, and making some frozen fries to go with them because I'm out of fresh taters. After dinner, I'll pop back on the forum and probably watch a movie or catch up a bit on a series or two I'm behind on.

And there you have it. It's just a thrill a minute around here.

That's not bad at all. I love having leftovers to just heat up for dinner since I don't really like to cook.

There are a couple things I want from Etsy and need to order.

I'm really sorry your back hurts so much. I wonder about those self cleaning boxes but not all cats would use them I assume and they probably cost plenty.

I didn't think you live alone, there is no one else to clean the box? Twice a week isn't the worst.

Two days off I had to shop, plan my meals, including lunch at work (or dinner if I was working PM) do laundry, run the dishwasher. I didn't craft hardly anything for years. My job was killing me. So I went part time. Not sure if I should have waited another year or two but I've been making it OK, so far.

this is what I did before I retired. The job was 10 hours a day on my feet, and it got to the point where I hated the day ahead... so I went part -time and worked just 3 days a week.. then 2 days a week.. then I retired at 62.. 4 years ago

I've turned 62 this year. So I can start social security if I have to.

I sure understand about your job wearing you down. I also rarely worked 8 hours, it was usually more. I was so tired of it and I was over worked.

Elevating the litter box is actually a good idea! When I do it, I lift the box on top of a cedar chest in the room. too bad you can't do that plan, because it sounded really good.

I just ordered some little wall shelves. I ordered one from this gentleman before and was very pleased. I'm a thrift shopper but it's not easy to find nice shelves so I ordered more. I need them for small items the cats can't get into. 😺

I don't live alone; me and Michelle married a little over a year ago. But she works and goes to school, so I do as much around here as I can. I haven't actually told her how often I clean the litterbox. It's covered, and that keeps the stinks contained, but if Michelle noticed an odor I'm sure she'd just go ahead and clean it.

Those self-cleaning boxes are awesome, but the replacement litter is expensive, and each self-cleaning box has it's own proprietary litter. Plus most of them run on electricity, so you've not only got the utility bill, you've got a cord for the cats to chew on. (And, yes, some cats are scared of them.)

I've heard that those self cleaning boxes do scare kitties. I mean, I hate those self flushing toilets in public restrooms because they always catch me unawares! So how much worse for a cat to have this box start doing "things." I also think the stench is often made worse by scented clay cat litter. We buy pine pellets from a feed store. They reduce to sawdust and it is really easy to scoop.

And pine pellets aren't as heavy as clay litter. But Pixel doesn't like the pine pellets. He'll go potty on dirt, which is free, but of course, dirt doesn't clump like clay does, and it weighs about the same.

Know what I hate about auto-flush public toilets? The mist! It's public toilet bowl mist, and it freaks me out. I cover my face and run.

Yes, so true about that mist. It's like inhaling a toilet bowl sneeze, lol. Too bad Pixel doesn't like pine pellets! Cats are so finicky, but we love them anyway!

@Jules :) It's not a dessert cake, it's a breakfast bar. It's not fluffy like cake, it's denser. I should've described it better. 🥴 I cut it into bars and individually quick froze them on a cookie sheet. Then when I don't feel like eating eggs in the morning, I pull out one of the bars, nuke it, and have it with some fresh fruit. Before you ask, the oatmeal is soaked ahead of time to get rid of some phytic acid in the oats. Phytic acid interferes with mineral absorption.

Here's the recipe -

Soaked, Baked Oatmeal​

Ingredients:
  • 4 cups old fashioned oats
  • 4 Tablespoons butter melted
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil melted
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup raw honey
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons Ceylon cinnamon (you can use any type of cinnamon)
  • 1 1/3 teaspoons Himalayan salt
  • 1/2 cup raisins (I use dried cranberries)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
Directions:
  1. Combine oatmeal, butter, coconut oil, yogurt, water, milk, vanilla, honey, cinnamon, salt, raisins, and unsweetened coconut flakes in a large glass bowl. Let the mixture soak overnight or up to 24 hours.
  2. The next morning, add the baking powder and eggs. Mix well and pour in an ungreased 9"×13" pan.
  3. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
Recipe Notes:
You can substitute the raisins with nuts, cranberries, chocolate chips, etc.
