A number of Police motorcycle officers including Constable Andrew Hong, were on a day long motorcycle training exercise that included riding on highways, rural roads and city streets. There were officers officers from Toronto Police, Peel Regional Police and York Regional Police. At about 2pm, the group stopped for lunch in the city of Mississauga. The place where they stopped has 4 fast food eateries in one parking area . The officers parked their bikes and split up to go to the food places. A few minutes later Constable Hong was walking back to his bike when he was shot in the head from behind by a black mam with a hand gun. Constable Hong died almost immediately. The other Police officers came out and saw him lying on the ground. They called for EMS and broadcast the vehicle description of a black Jeep .

About an hour later, in the nearby town of Milton, the same black man shot 3 men at a auto body shop, killing one of them, and leaving 2 other men in critical condition in hospital. Officers from the Halton Regional Police service ( which covers the town of Milton ) pursued the shooter towards the city of Hamilton. As the subject vehicle entered the city of Hamilton, it was pitted by a Halton Police car. The subject came out of the Jeep shooting. He was shot and killed by a Halton Regional officer.

Constable Andrew Hong was 48 years old. He was a 22 year veteran Toronto Police Services officer, assigned to the Traffic unit. He leaves behind his wife, 2 teen age children, and his Parents.

Make no mistake, this was a deliberate murder, of a Police officer, who was ambushed in a parking lot. Funeral arrangements for Constable Hong have not yet been announced. I am sure that there will be large Police presence, from across Canada, and the northern USA at his funeral.

Rest easy brother. JimB.

We had an alert on the cellphone about the shooter. They had the make/colour/license # of the vehicle. The perpretrator was arrested fairly quickly.

Condolences to PC Hong's family and colleagues. May he rest in peace.

Condolences to the family of the man who worked at the auto body shop. Another innocent victim.
I hope the other two men a speedy recovery.

Pinky. The shooter was shot and killed in Hamilton by a Halton Regional officer, after the Jeep was run off the road on York Boulevard. The shooter came out of the vehicle shooting at the Halton officer, who shot and killed him. The Ontario SIU has taken over the investigation of the shooting in Hamilton. JimB.

I'm sorry to hear of the tragic killing of PC Hong.

What jumped out at me was that you found it necessary to highlight the perpetrator's race in both the subject line and the story. If he'd been white, would that have also been so heavily emphasized? What of Constable Hong's race? Does that not matter?

I was shocked to think this might be a Canadian news thing, so I googled the Constable Hong death. While I admit to stopping after the first two pages, I couldn't find a single news that found the perpetrator's race to be anything but a minor mention.

The shooting was tragic. The emphasis on the shooter's race is also tragic and very disappointing.

TBF to Jim.. I did notice that too SS, but I presumed that like I do often times, he may have just copied and pasted direct from a media source...

The murderer WAS BLACK. Do you have a problem with the truth ? Facts, not feelings. JimB.

When someone kills a cop, it barely makes the news. However, if a cop takes down a Black, the riots and protests soon start.
Trust me Don, this is national news, here in Canada. Constable Hong was shot in the head, from behind while walking across a parking lot to get back on his motorcycle. He was one of a number of officers from 3 Police departments who were doing their annual motorcycle refresher course together. The group had stopped for their lunch break at a place that has 4 fast food eateries in one common parking lot. Constable Hong was the first officer to leave the cafe. The other officers heard the gunfire, but the killer had driven away in his stolen Jeep. There was a second person, a civilian , who was also shot at the same time, but he survived with serious gun shot wounds. Make no mistake, this was a targeted murder of some one who was wearing a Police uniform. JimB.

Condolences to the family, a tragic loss.

Perhaps it was an oversight, but there were 5 shot total, including a second murder victim in this shooting incident, a local community figure- Shakeel Ashraf being the 2nd fatality. Tim Hortons ambush

If the murderer was White, would that have been mentioned?
In all fairness to the author, race may have been mentioned because of the disproportionate number of US police officers killed by Blacks who comprise roughly 13% of the US population and 41% of the killers of police officers.

“From 1980 to 2013, there were 2,269 officers killed in felonious incidents, and 2,896 offenders. The racial breakdown of offenders over the 33-year period was on par with the 10-year period: 52 percent were white, and 41 percent were black.”

Thank you Lawrence. I love that quote by Morgan Freeman, it's what I've been saying for years. It's well established that there really are no clearly defined "races" among humans. The bogus labels were all just invented by early explorers to pretend that one group of people was more savage or less intelligent than another. As humans migrated north they lost pigment and in countries between Africa, China and Norway there are hundreds of variations. Half of the people in America who describe themselves as black have as many white ancestors as black.

At the turn of the century I had sincerely hoped that all attempts to define people by race would be dropped, but it seems like it's gone the other way and every single thing is related to race. I listen to NPR and they can't say it looks like a rainy day without saying how that affects black people vs how it effects white people.

I've started with myself and I now refuse to check any race boxes on any forms. On my Covid vaccination card it says "unknown" after race.
