President Jimmy Carter & wife are still alive.

OMG!!! someone mentioned Jimmy Carter on TV, and it occurred to me that he's still with us at 96. He was President from 1976-80. That was 50 years ago. His wife Roselyn is 95. There must have been something in the water people drank in the mid 1920s, that causes them to live into their 90s. Who else is a famous old timer still kicking

In the 1990s, I was in Plaines, Ga. It's a small village, at best.. Stopped at a store, I was told Carter was just there, riding his bicycle. They said to go to his home, he loved to have people visit him. He lives in a nice home, but it's a regular home. There were no guard boxes or anything. Everybody kept saying he loved visitors, I didn't have the guts to walk up to the door of a President's home, and say ,"Hi". Damn, now, I wish I did.

One year in the 70s, while driving south my parents stopped in Plains Ga. Some Carters still there, and still peanut farms. They brought home bags of Peanuts. Some raw, with instructions how to prep them for eating

The Florida house we last lived in had been visited several times by Jimmy Carter, long before he became president. It was a beach house we bought from the widow of Jimmy Carter's first lawyer. They used it as a vacation/party house and had many prominent Georgia Democrats down from time to time. She told us Jimmy's last visit was when he was Governor.

Nobody famous came to visit us...

I went to Plains today to take pics for y’all…

it’s peanut harvesting season so the bright red trailers (hoppers?) that transport them are all over town. This is on the edge of town

a little further down main street is Billy’s old gas station

On the other side of the railroad tracks is the old depot that was Carter’s campaign headquarters

I always wondered about Billy Beer. I can't recall if it was available in New York State. Back then I was still drinking beer. After hearing your comments about it, I am now glad that I never wasted my money on it. I hear that he was an embarrassment to the President. There was some story about a Arab nation loaning him money or something like that. I believe he was a alcoholic and ran for mayor in Plains, Georgia while his brother was President. It didn't help him at all. He still lost.

I think that Miss Lillian, Jimmy’s mother, was a respected and iconic figure known both for common sense and longevity. Jimmy has now outlived her by quite a margin. Did you know that Jimmy saw a UFO while in the navy? Brother Billy was the family embarrassment…almost every family has one!

Of all the presidents in my lifetime, Jimmy Carter is my favorite. He's likeable, humble, great wife, is simple "one of us" who tried to unite unite by delivering both good and bad results on crises in our own country. That, to me, is truly someone I look up to and always will. I only wish there were more like Jimmy in our midst.

A side note: When he ran for president, my mom and I were at odds. She thought he was a wimp.....but then, she loved Ronald Reagan. I'll say no more.:)

I loved them both so it’s obvious I don’t fit into any particular category. I’d bring Jimmy out of retirement to help negotiate some peace around the world and I’m not kidding.
