Virgin Atlantic’s crew, pilots and ground staff can now wear whichever of its uniforms they feel most comfortable in, regardless of the original male or female design of its red skirt suit or burgundy trousers.

The airline has announced a gender identity policy that lets its staff choose which of the Vivienne Westwood-designed outfits they wear to work – “no matter their gender, gender identity or gender expression”.

Virgin said the move was to reflect the diversity of the workforce, and to reinforce its branding campaign as welcoming and inclusive, after recent moves to relax rules on visible tattoos.

The airline will also start using optional pronoun badges for crew and passengers, who can request them at check-in to ensure people use their preferred pronouns. Its ticketing systems will also allow people whose passports have gender neutral markers – available in the US, India and Pakistan – to travel using those gender codes and the title Mx.

Years ago, we got used to women wearing pants. Girls even wear pants to school nowadays!

I've also known several men who wore skirts, including my last boyfriend.

I think the first man I ever knew to wear a skirt was an American teacher I met in Korea. That was 25 years ago. As far as I know, no one had a problem with it, including his boss, his students, the students' parents, and his Korean girlfriend.

I've had good service and crappy service on various airlines. I didn't care what the crew was wearing. (Singapore Airlines does have nice unforms though. And great service.)

I am more interested in the recent storm of the east coast of Canada, the new storm that killed all the electric power in Cuba and is now giving them folks in Florida something to think about. I am more concerned about the fact that California is running out of water and that "Mad Dog" Putin might start a nuclear war. What sort of clothes some folks might wear is certainly a non issue for this country boy.

You might say I am more interested in real problems that I can see and touch rather than "Problems" of the mind, like what to wear or who is sleeping with who? Life is just too short!

So, does that mean you wouldn't be comfortable with a woman pilot in a dress and heels?
I'd feel a little uncomfortable if she wore heels. I know pilots never "slam on the breaks", but I do think stable footwear is a good thing to see on your airplane pilot...probly a psychological thing. :p
