You need "eyes" and "clicks" on your content. Followers and Subscribers and People or Businesses to Purchase or Follow your Sponsors and Advertisers. These are the eyes and the clicks.

Some "wealthy" bloggers, (don't ask me their names it's been a few years since I read this stuff) said that a person trying to earn an income from blogging/influencing/etc. needs 1000 people who will Regularly Support their content. Support is clicking or purchasing and sharing your links.
Support is also Sharing your site/name/links/products. Support from your site to others if they have a site is reciprocal and expected. It should get your site more "Traffic." You want Traffic to your site/page/blog, etc. You need people and businesses to find your content.
(Having a "family" of 1000 versus tens/hundreds of thousands or millions of followers/subscribers works for them.)
In order to be paid you need a Relationship with the payer. Businesses often have links on their websites to explain how and what they are looking for in order to get Their Product in front of eyes.
Some businesses have a minimum Traffic site requirement. They won't let you sign up without a specific number of visitors to your site=the higher the visitor rate the higher Traffic rate.
Affiliates are what an influencer/blogger/instagrammer/ and pininterester often signs up to be on the business sites. The businesses pay for clicks and purchases which come through your site.
Some businesses don't pay in cash, but pay in products.
All of these payments to you are IRS reportable. If you are in the USA, and in the UK to that appropriate tax agency.
Go for it. As
@hollydolly said there are people including seniors doing all kinds of things to show their followers.
I realize this is more info than you were probably looking for and maybe your post was tongue in cheek, but I'm just putting it out there for anyone else.
Hey, good luck if you do decide to make a site/page/channel. Do it for fun and see what you like or don't like.
