The Raw Blistering Power of the Q Siren on a Fire Wagon

Depends on the departments policy. As far as I know I don't think FDNY ever required them even when the Federal Q2B Series were on the apparatus. Now the E-Q2B replaced the Q2B due to the canyon effect affecting the Manhattan citizenry. Nothing like comfort over safety in Da Yawk.

For years after my huband died and I put my mother into care, I would have panic attacks just hearing that noise. It was like a regular event for so long.

I was sleeping the other day, the clock said it was noon. The air raid siren went off. I thought okay Mr, Putin has done the worst. No reason to panic if this it was it, there was no reason to be afraid, nothing to do, no where to hide, it will be over soon. I just pulled the pups up close. Spoke softly, it will be okay, we are safe together. Is that just a sad thing, lived through enough of fear that I was not afraid.

Air raid sirens? Where?
Here where I live in Teaxs, I call them air sirens. They are what is used to notify the community of tornadoes or severe bad weather, high wind, flooding etc. They don't normally go off in the midle of the day during good weather. They must have been equipment testing. With all this talk of war and nuclear attacks, I thought well maybe it is happening. Hate to think it could but anything is possible with what has been going on.

They might have been used in the historic CONELRAD System. CONELRAD also transmitted messages on 640 khz and 1240 khz on the AM radio dial. Most of the original public alert systems have been upgraded or replaced and retasked for a number of additional public alert incidents under EBS now EAS.
