A thread about fun songs we may have heard long ago, like "Saddap You Face" by Joe Dolce, as played on BBC radio last night:

Lyrics

'Allo, I'm-a Giuseppe, I got-a something special-a for you, ready?
Uno, duo, tre, quatro!

When I was a boy just about the eighth-a grade
Mama used to say "don't stay out-a late with the bad-a boys
Always shoot-a pool Giuseppe going to flunk-a school!"
Boy it make-a me sick all the t'ing I gotta do
I can't-a get-a no kicks, always got to follow rules
Boy it make-a me sick just to make-a lousy bucks
Got to feel-a like a fool
And-a mama used to say all-a time

What's-a matter you? Hey! Gotta no respect?
What-a you t'ink you do, why you look-a so sad?
It's-a not so bad, it's-a nice-a place
Ah shaddap-a you face!
That's-a my mama, I can remember!

Big accordion solo!
Ah, play 'dat again!
Really nice, really nice!

But soon-a come-a day, gonna be a big-a star
Den I make-a T.V. shows and-a movies
Get-a myself a new car but still I be myself
I don't want-a to change a t'ing
Still a-dance and a-sing
I think-a about-a mama, she used to say

What's-a matter you? Hey! Gotta no respect?
What-a you t'ink you do, why you look-a so sad?
It's-a not so bad, it's-a nice-a place
Ah shaddap-a you face!

Mama, she said it all-a da time!

What's-a matter you? Hey! Gotta no respect?
What-a you t'ink you do, why you look-a so sad?
It's-a not so bad, it's-a nice-a place
Ah shaddap-a you face!
That's-a my mama!

I'm going to start a new thread soon, this one about songs and performers singing more moody or even melancholy tunes and lyrics we maybe didn't fully appreciate when first released, (the one I have in mind is a Fairport Convention track that hits the spot), but the above fun songs, about half of them new to me, have really been something! :)

The man with a gentle voice and manner but a dangerously sharp sense of humor. This comes from a 1968 'best of' LP.

Read some of the comments.

The great Chuck Berry has an amazing back catalogue of sublime rock & roll songs, his music and influence will never be forgotten. Of his many hits, one stands out as a cheeky novelty song, that had morality campaigner Mary Whitehouse objecting to a BBC Top of the Pops TV show, that featured Chuck Berry's My Ding-a-Ling (a 1972 number one hit in the US, Canada and the UK.)

The objection being that my ding-a-ling is nothing more than a crude euphemism for masturbation. What's the betting that Chuck Berry's cover of Dave Bartholomew's 1952 novelty song wouldn't have been no more than a minor hit had it not been all the fuss?
My Ding-A-Ling.

Here is one for all our good American neighbour. Apparently this song reached the # 1 spot in 1960 so a lot of people must have liked it. It sort of tells the real and inside truth about one of their heroes, General Custer. Listen if you have a sense of humour. Grumpy, politically correct types should move on quickly!
