I wasn't born in 1967..HC..I was born in April 1955... Flatterer...lol
Is that a record shortest term for a PM?She sure didn't last long....45 days.
Correct, prior to the current incumbent's short term of office the previous prime minister to serve the shortest term was George Canning. He held various senior cabinet positions under numerous prime ministers, including two important terms as Foreign Secretary, finally becoming Prime Minister of the United Kingdom for the last 119 days of his life, from April to August 1827.Never mind the shortest lived PM question, @hollydolly already answered that she is.
yes she gets the pension...Is that a record shortest term for a PM?
Our shortest lived President was William Henry Harrison, 31 days. Caught the flu at his inauguration and died of it, or so the story goes.
So does Liz get the PM pension? I'd bet she does.
yes precisely that .. politically neutral.. and yes they have to be seen and to be thought accepting of whatever Party and leader are elected.Spin-off Q. about Royals for HollyDolly: Are they presumed to be politically neutral? Seems like they have to be polite & supportive to whom ever the PM is?
Liz Truss was 100 times worse than Boris... Boris was very far from perfect but Truss was a Disaster.. far too young and inexperienced... we didn't vote her in..her own party did.. but then couldn't wait like the rest of the country to get rid of her.. because she was terrible at the job..
Oh well, what do I know....another case of "got it off the internet".Not so! 2022 minus sixty-seven equals 1955. In 1955 Winston Churchill, who had returned to power in 1951 as Prime Minister, resigned the office of PM through failing health. Churchill served as Prime Minister under King George the sixth throughout the war years. He served as Prime Minister under Queen Elizabeth from her ascension to the throne in February 1952 until his resignation in April 1955.
Therefore he has also served under two monarchs.
For someone who considers a monarchy an anachronistic hangover that's well past it's sell by date, I can be an annoying pedantic.
So True...holly
all our PMs talk forever
But say nothing !!!
No, none of them could but she sort of fits the description in the other post.princess Anne couldn't run the country... not that Boris was great at it.. but hey...![]()
yes Penny Mordaunt was up for the position at the same time ...I really can't talk too much more about the political parties policies for fear of going against the forum political rules.. but no it's not true that the Conservative party can't be brought down by opposing parties..Hate to say this. When Truss was chosen, were there any other women running against her? The politically correct thing to do was to chose a woman. There was some negative news about her right away. I hope the party finds someone decent to lead.
I gather the Conservatives have a large majority and can’t be brought down by the opposing parties.
yes..in a nutshell..yes !! Usually the public get to elect a leader of the party but because Boris left so suddenly a leader had to be found to replace him immediately ..and therefore she was elected by her own party votes.. ..as will be her successor..@hollydolly
Does anyone who is elected and selected by the one majority Party, get the position, with no influence from the other Parties or their members?
I am asking you, because as @Nathan advised in an above post, it's best not to get all our info from the Internet!![]()
yes I fear it will be Rishi ... this conservative party are a laughing stock now.. Never mind this lady is not for turning... Maggie would be spinning like a peerie in her grave..No, none of them could but she sort of fits the description in the other post.
FWIW I think it will be Rishi - I doubt the Boris rumour but, you never know, these days anything could happen!
Sounds like our politicians owe much to our British heritage...all our PMs talk forever
But say nothing !!!
Yep, not many 45 day jobs doing something legal I'd turn down. So long as I got the pension...Trouble with politicians is that no matter how badly they mess up, no matter how incompetent they are or how totally irresponsible they are - they still get a decent pay off.
I know there's been a lot of talk about Australia separating from England and becoming a republic, but just throwing it out there that with all they're going through at the moment why don't we consider invading?
lol..you're right.. and the Brits are the best at turning humour on ourselves when things look Blackest... and how can we get mad at Australians..?. not gonna happen..Can't resist posting this tweet that made me laugh
Trust an Australian to turn farce into comedy.
Sorry Holly, but when everything looks blackest some gallows humour can ease the pain.
Just picture the Australian XI planting a flag at Grenwich and claiming England for Australia as Terra Nulliness. It is a scene worthy of the Monty Python team.
