The meal of Liver and Onions and why you like or don't like?

Never been much into organs
Especially ones that filter toxins

Well I'll have your portion of steak and kidney pie then. You wouldn't want to eat an
organ that can cleanse the blood of toxins and transform the waste into urine, would you?

Liver and onions was part of my moms rotating dinner schedule, I ate it but never liked it, don't believe I have had it as an adult and don't plan on it. We also always had gooseliver sandwiches, didn't like that either so would smother it in Mayo, eventually just started eating Mayo sandwiches with no meat, I actually liked that.

Not only do I love liver and onions, my two children liked it as well. I served it monthly (calve's liver is best and most tender) we enjoyed it , and the kids, ages 2 and 5, wanted ketchup on it. Anything was fine, if they ate it. The secret is soak it in milk for half an hour, then coat it in flour, and not over cook it. My son asks me for this meal on occasion, and he's 50. It's also his favorite meal with carmelized onions, mashed potatoes, gravy, fresh broccoli.

As a variation. A raw onion & cucumber salad with a sour cream & garlic flavored dressing. Then season breading for & bread the liver like you would for southern fried chicken. We air fry so the breading is crisp but the liver is tender & cooked thru. The contrast in textures & seasoned breading changes it up. We used to pan fry like that in canola oil but cut back on frying with oil.

We kids always complained when my mother made liver and onions, but we ate it. I don't think she made it very often. But I liked chopped liver - until I tried to make it myself and then it was so disgusting to me to make it that I didn't eat it anymore after that time.

Growing up, my mother thought "it was good for us"
so she made it for us...and even though my mom was a great cook..
the liver turned out dry and tough.
Can you tell? I 😝 the stuff.
To this day...never, never, never....

Not sure why, but in Australia is called "Lambs fry" I, love it with onions gravy, and mashed potatoes! maybe because as kids after the War (U.K.), and because it was cheap, we had it often could not get much back then due to rationing.
