Hope this doesn't offend the easily offended

That's pretty condescending, are you having a bad day?

Rest assured, nobody gives a rat's ass enough about your opinion to be offended. Typical gloom & doom, nothing new here.

If you dwell in the negative, guess what...you're world is **magically**...negative.
There are a few media outlets, which shall go un-named (oxfay ewsnay), that exist to keep their viewers perpetually outraged by lying to them about how bad things are. Not that things aren't bad, but it doesn't do our country any good to lie about why it's so bad. Some people just can't handle the truth because the truth makes them feel bad about their worldview.

I'm not offended by your rant, it's the same ranting I'm hearing from many people.
What I am offended by, is the number of ranters who conveniently let loose at will...while sitting in their chair day after day, instead of looking around in their own community and finding a way of doing something positive for the community and themselves. Change starts with a single thought, then plan, then action.

Have you ever thought of mentoring? You've had decades to sign up to help.
Have you gone to town meetings, sit quietly for a couple of them, to truly understand some issues that should and could be resolved if a few stepped forward to initiate the action. Then, perhaps raise your hand with a positive idea?
Have you gone to current PTA meetings at your local school, listen to see what the needs are to help teachers?
Have you volunteered at a local food bank for two hours once a month?
I could go on, but most probably you are by now, grumbling and saying what good is it going to do? Even if you never tried to put yourself in a position to truly help whatever issues you are grumbling about, now is a wonderful time to begin to think about it. One thought, one idea, mention it to your mayor, Chamber of Commerce, Garden Club, local garage owners, recycle company...

Hey, you never know until you try. So, try it. Then, next year, come back and tell us if you made a difference. We will be waiting and listening to you, without the grumbling.

“The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.”

― Socrates 469-399 BC

"We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do.”

I have to strongly dis-agree with you about the current generation of American youth. You need to sit down with some Police officers who have to deal with these little criminals. The kids are strongly influenced by the messages that they see on their video phones, AND the violent music that they listen to. I am talking about the REALITY of life in your country in 2022. Try this. look up the rate of juvenile arrests in YOUR county in the past year, and WHAT crimes they were arrested FOR. You need to get educated about the realities around you. JimB.
Yeah, but when I was a kid, TV was new and there were crazy things happening on shows and movies that our parents didn't want us to emulate so they told us so and forbade us to, as movies grew more violent too. Ultimately this does come down to lack of parenting, but this is just my opinion.

Exactly! This is what I've been trying to express but certainly not as well.

Good point, many new things are feared. There was a time when Pinball was considered an evil influence on kids:

That Time America Outlawed Pinball
https://www.history.com/news/that-time-america-outlawed-pinball
I used to play pinball in a downtown saloon when I was about 11. (Montana, not much to do)
It was only a few feet away from the bar where drunks would complain about their day and their wives.
It made me so thankful my Father didn't hang around bars.
Let me realize what I didn't want in my life.

Beautifully stated. Great advice for us all.

The easily offended.

I think this all started with the anti-bullying campaigns in schools. It was the correct move, but as per usual the pendulum swung way too far the other way. All of a sudden everything became offensive.

That, and many people actually enjoy being offended...it gives them the moral high ground...makes them feel better about themselves and better than you or I.

I'm easy going. I've got over 400 posts since I've joined and can't recall calling anyone out for being offensive....although I could be wrong.

We all see the symptoms of a sick country but what is the antidote?
Once again, Harry put it to verse and explains it better than I could.

"And while blood's the only language that your deaf old ears can hear
And still you will not answer with that message coming clear
Does it mean there's no more ripples in your tired old glory stream
And the buzzards own the carcass of your dream?"

"Deteriorata" - National Lampoon

You are a fluke of the universe. You have no right to be here.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste,
And remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.
Avoid quiet and passive persons, unless you are in need of sleep.
Rotate your tires.
Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself,
And heed well their advice, even though they be turkeys.
Know what to kiss, and when.
Consider that two wrongs never make a right, but that three do.
Wherever possible, put people on hold.
Be comforted that in the face of all aridity and disillusionment,
and despite the changing fortunes of time,
There is always a big future in computer maintenance.

Remember The Pueblo.
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle, and mutilate.
Know yourself. If you need help, call the FBI.
Exercise caution in your daily affairs,
Especially with those persons closest to you -
That lemon on your left, for instance.
Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls
Would scarcely get your feet wet.
Fall not in love therefore. It will stick to your face.
Gracefully surrender the things of youth: birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan.
And let not the sands of time get in your lunch.
Hire people with hooks.
For a good time, call 606-4311. Ask for Ken.
Take heart in the bedeepening gloom
That your dog is finally getting enough cheese.
And reflect that whatever fortune may be your lot,
It could only be worse in Milwaukee.

You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
And whether you can hear it or not,
The universe is laughing behind your back.

Therefore, make peace with your god,
Whatever you perceive him to be - hairy thunderer, or cosmic muffin.
With all its hopes, dreams, promises, and urban renewal,
The world continues to deteriorate.
Give up!
I prefer this version. The other is so damn preachy, reminds me of Polonius: STFU already.

Have mentored a few people. Maybe it helped, maybe it didn't... don't know, but I tried.
Been to many a small town meeting. Sat quietly and tried to understand the issues Figured out early, $$$$'s spoke louder than I.
Can't say I've ever been to a PTA meeting.
Have given food and on occasion, money to homeless and watched them keep coming back for more. Choice's again.
What else is there to say when you're bucking a stacked deck?

All well and good, but, since most agree that music defines a generation, you might want to hear some of the more modern music (??) that children are listening to today.
I won't post any lyrics here, but, if you've got stomach enough, go and check this out. (WARNING) most will not want to read this.
you've been warned.

Anything goes today. It's no wonder some kids are turning out bad.

Some of the 'rock and roll" music was beautiful back in the day. Remember, The Righteous Brother's song Unchained Melody ?

Now much of it is just plain disgusting.

However, that is merely the tip of the iceberg. "Bad kids," are only a small part of what's wrong with America.

I just saw this post on FB. Somehow, it makes me feel better that you didn't really sit and think up all of this by yourself, @squatting dog . :)

I don’t give a Rats butt, who this offends, but I stand by it. War is coming, sooner or later! You the Government!! You are all a bunch of cowards! You raised the cost of living so high that both parents are always at work, rather than spending time with their children (single parents stand no chance)
😥
. You took God out of schools. Parents were told 'No you can't discipline your kids'. Well, now most of those kids are rude and out of control. You shall reap what you sow! We have taken a whole generation and turned them into selfish, entitled brats who have no respect for people, property or authority! You deem people with terminal illnesses and some with only a few months to live…fit for work!!! You allow our veterans of war to go homeless and hungry but give out millions to foreign aid!!! You save drug addicts over and over again but refuse to give free diabetic supplies to those who need them to stay alive. You bend over backwards to be politically correct, too scared to say enough is enough, in case you offend someone. You put the retirement age up so people must work until they drop. You take care of prisoners and give them everything under the sun (food, medical, education, representation, money, rehabilitation) yet you cause the elderly, those that have paid their debt to society and their families, to go broke caring for them either at home or in a nursing home... THINGS NEED TO CHANGE!
Copy & paste if you have the guts!
( I am betting most of my friends don't have any guts. Offended now? I don't need to be popular, I just need to be true to myself and my standards!) Can I get an amen?

For the record, parents were told they couldn't beat their children to a pulp, punch them out, break their bones, lock them up, starve them, or otherwise abuse them.
They weren't told that they couldn't discipline them.

I find no fault with the more modern approach.

You're the second person to tell me this was on facebook, although the other was said to be 3 years ago. Again, I first wrote this about 7 years ago. Even if they have changed some of the the words, (like THEY, to YOU), I'm starting to feel a wee bit honored.
