How old is old?

there was a thread about how old was old and I cannot find the thread. What I did find was a survey of will you have to work in your old age. A British study of 11,400 adults from ten countries. When asked how old is old, 39 and younger people said: 58.......40 to 59 year olds said....69.......60 and older said: 74. Someone once said, old is ten years older than what ever you are.

I think it's always 10 years older than you are now,... :D...I;m 67 and as you can see by my avi which is a recent photo.. I don't look it... whereas as I just said on another thread, my granny at the same age, looked like, spoke like, acted, and dressed like an archetypal old woman...

I have friends in their 70s and they act much younger than their age. I have friends in their 80s, and this is where they start slowing down. I have friends in their 90s, and I would consider that old age. I don't have any friends nearing 100 yet. I would consider that not old age, but "golden" age.

However, when I was young, I used to think 65 was old. Why? I remember we had been asked a question in a class, about what writer should we consider funding so they could do their writing. It was a multiple choice question, and it listed a young person in their 20s, another person in their 40s and another person 65. I chose the one in their 40s. At that time, I pictured the 65-year-old as someone over the hill and not having much time to do any work. Boy, was I wrong. I'm seeing this now with myself. One of the people I studied recently wrote around 8 novels from age 65 until his 80s.

I agree that it is ten years older than whatever my age is. Saying a certain age is old will make you start acting and being old. It is true that you are whatever you think.
This is about how I feel about old and older. I don't think about my age much, until someone starts talking about aging. I do know that I have friends that focus on their age daily, and use it as a crutch for not exercising, walking more, doing chores, etc. It's almost like their shield and badge for not making an effort to enjoy the days. At times. I get frustrated with that attitude.

I know you have been laying awake at night wondering why baby diapers have lovely brand names such as "Luvs", "Huggies" and "Pampers", while undergarments for old people are called "Depends".

Well, here's the lowdown on the whole thing. When babies poop their pants, people are still going to Luv'em, Hug'em, and Pamper'em. When old people do that, it "Depends" on who's in the will.

You're welcome.

Old, young, just words. I'm a day older now than I was yesterday but I'm still a day younger than I will be tomorrow. Every day that I wake up, I remind myself that I've just set a new record for consecutive days that I've lived in a row and that thought helps to keep me going. I'm not sure of the exact day that I first felt or realized that I am old but I feel fortunate to have had such an opportunity. My driver's license says that I'm a lot older than my heart and mind would have me believe but my eyes don't lie.

A good exercise routine for people over 60:

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room on each side.

With a 5-lb potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute and then relax.

Each day, you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to a 10-lb potato bag. Then try 20-lb and 30-lb bags and eventually try to get where you can lift a 50-lb bag in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute (I have reached this level).

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag.

I find when I dwell on feeling bad it makes me feel old. If I concentrate on other things and not worry about it so much, I will suddenly think what happened to that feeling I was so focused on the last few days? Besides people of all ages have pain at various times in their life. Not reserved for a certain age. I like the term "ageless".
