I love the Habaneros, always have some(fresh, frozen or dried) on hand. You can make Habanero poppers the same way as Jalapeno poppers, cut in half, put cream cheese inside, put sides back together and wrap a half strip of bacon around it. Put in oven at 400 F for 25 minutes.

Nathan, years ago, I was in the habit of eating hot salsa right out of the jar
and with my chips, I did this for about 7 years, and developed a bad stomach
issue, around that time I had to put on the brakes to most of those type spicy
things and boy did I love many of them...

PS: and I don't mean just dip the chip in the salsa, I ate almost the entire
jar of 6 ounces and at least twice weekly, it was some sort of dysfunctional
choice obviously lol

 @LadyEmeraude , was there a connection attributing the stomach issue to the salsa?
I had to halt all spicy food for about 6 months back around 2014, but that's because I developed a hiatal hernia, which took a bit to heal(thankfully).
well, the nutritionist I'd started seeing, made that diagnosis as one of several culprits, but can't say for sure. I still get reflux at times, and nothing spicey has went in my mouth.

Your hernia and spicey foods did not mix then back then. Good you stopped. You do ok with spicey stuff now then and no problems,
wish I could say and enjoy the same :)

I like jalapeño poppers because they're not too hot. My favorite pepper is the poblano. Those cute little spicy habanero "pumpkins" you can keep! 🧯🔥

Reflux is horrible, well worth giving up spicy to get away from that. My hiatal hernia healed up, and I am OK now with spicy-ness. ;)

I like them also, but have to be careful not to overdo it.

Question for you @Nathan , why are they called Habanero? Doesn't that mean from Havana? The Cuban food I have had was quite good, but lacked anything even close to habanero hot.

If I recall you are Cuban, correct me if I am wrong.
I've always assumed that the Habanero peppers were called such, because in Spanish "Yo soy Habanero" means "I am from Havana". But, Habaneros come from the Amazon, and eventually got spread all through the Caribbean. I have eaten at Cuban restaurants in L.A. and not really seen much 'spicy', but then maybe the food has become Americanized...? Mexican food can get spicy, as can Asian, and I'm totally good with that. ;)

I was born in Cuba but am not of Cuban heritage, both my parents were U.S. citizens.

Speaking of Habs, here's a pic of some that my neighbor gave me, grown in his garden.

They are beautiful, I really want to make up a batch of Habanero poppers to share with people that would enjoy them.

Must be an interesting story there. I assume it was pre-Castro.

Thanks for your answer on the peppers. I like em, no matter the name.
Yes, Batista was in charge at the time. My dad was assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Havana as a Vice Counsel, a lower echelon diplomat. He told me at some time that he had met Fidel Castro when Castro was a college student. Described him as wearing a red tennis outfit. My dad always had interesting stories.

When we were in Cuba for a week, either at the resort or in a restaurant, the food was bland. The few restaurants that I’ve been to in Canada served bland food too. We quit going to them.

I've come to see that, a bit perplexing. All though the Caribbean spicy food products are made and marketed. My daughter when she was living in St. Thomas VI regularly sent me all kinds of [HOT!] delicious sauces and condiments.
I envy Canadians being able to travel freely to Cuba, I would like to visit the pais de mi nacido before I die.

Just fly into Canada and take a flight from here. It’s very, very common. There might be flights from Vancouver.

Oh I can get to Cuba well enough, it's just getting back into the U.S., as the State Dept. still forbids travel to Cuba for all but a very specific set of reasons. Civil penalties of up to $55,000 per violation may be imposed. I do wish the gov't would get over it and forget the embargo, serves no purpose now, not that it ever was "effective" in it's goals.
