Nicole's coming, probably a hurricane in a day or two

And a hurricane in November is quite rare, but I'm sure the waters are staying warmer for a longer time. The concern with hurricanes these days is not only the category but the amount of water they carry. We used to have tropical storms when I lived in Florida that were more severe than hurricanes due to flooding.

I saw a news story today that showed tons of trash piled up from Ft. Myers and Bonita Springs in preparation for Hurricane Nicole.

These new generation hurricanes are getting more and more devastating. Hurricane Ian left Florida with upwards of $40 billion in damage.

My BFF and I were talking about this yesterday. She lives in a resort town but her street dodged a bullet when it came to flooding. However, her late parent's property, just a few minutes away, saw residents and guests cars flooded. She tends to not only her condo but the one her parent's used to own, as well, so she's apprehensive right now. I'll be keeping track and I'm sure we'll be talking about the track today. Praying for safety for all good Floridians.

I flew down to Florida yesterday to check on my friend down there and we drove to Ft. Myers. Can I post videos on this site?

According to the instructions in the Insert Media box (to the left of quote marks when you open the field to type in), videos must be from one of these platforms to allow posting:

Hurricanes are doing more damage, but I suspect the primary reason is that we has so many more people and structures along the coasts in harms way than ever before. Most scientific evaluations of hurricanes do not show a clear increase in either number or strength over time, but the increase in damage is happening. The popular media would like us to believe otherwise, it sells.

This is a good article that discusses historical and prehistorical hurricane power and frequency. They conclude that the period from about 3,800 to 1,000 years ago was worse than what we are seeing today. Not something that would make an exciting headline...

I will spend the morning bringing in anything, decorations, flags, hanging flower pots, that could become a missile. We are not going to be so lucky with this one. Looks like it will be going right over us. Wind out there, right now, is brutal.
Be careful, hoping you are ok!

Hope so, I'd like to see them.

I spoke with the Captain last night on my Southwest flight. He told me had 4 legs scheduled in Florida for today, but the wind could change his plans. It's a shame for him to lose that much money, but it's best to be safe.

Very strange weather today in advance of Nicole. It's raining torentially...two minutes later the sun is shining......dash into a store and come out to a monsoon....drive a mile and the sun is shining.....nope, here comes the rain again.....

Schools are being closed through Friday.

I'm supposed to meet my daughter tomorrow for lunch for her birthday....who knows.....
